“Friendly pub with great food”
Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

We visited this pub as it was dog friendly and could not have asked for much more.

The staff were very friendly and welcomed my wife and I as well as our dog and 10 month old son and we enjoyed the lovely food and drink at this well situated pub.

This was the highlight of our holiday as the caravan park we stayed at was a real let down and it was nice to have this pub in walking distance so we could eat and relax.

“Bad Day?”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

We had Sunday lunch here as a large family and everybody was really friendly and helpful but, sorry, the food was appalling.
The "roast chicken dinner" was a few old shredded bits of chicken drowned in the same gravy used for the very dead, dry, warmed up roast beef. The vegetables seemed like left overs with suspicious vibrant green broccoli.
Shame - perhaps a bad day? We didn't expect "restaurant food" but we did expect for £100 a lot better than this.
The pub looks a little tatty outside and the food was the same.

“What a Cracking Place!!”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Cant say enough about the Sailors Home,,, one of the best Ive been to in a long time. Staff are amazingly friendly,, and go out of their way to make your visit a fantastic experience.
They couldn't be friendlier if they tried! Food was really good,, fresh, tasty and home cooked,,, and served with a smile!
Have to add this place is Autism friendly too,, so that went a long way,, as we were able to relax and enjoy,, no stares, no comments and it didn't matter they all accepted,, so would recommend the Sailors home to any one,, who is near,, pay a visit,, its a great place

“Very friendly spot and excellent live music”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

In spite of some of the reviews complaining about the service here, we have always found the staff to be chatty and friendly. There is a good and varied selection of bitter on offer and the pub is known for its live music. We have seen a number of bands there and have always had a very enjoyable afternoon/evening. We have eaten at the pub as well - I would say it is fairly average pub food, but not bad. The "very good" rating is given for the well kept beer and musical offerings!
