Recently went to the Mayflower in Lymington for lunch with friends. Nice surroundings, attentive staff, and we very much enjoyed what we ordered. Overall very good food and affordable prices. The place was pretty busy with the festive season upon us but the staff were very efficient and friendly and service was good. Sizzling steak was excellent and even the most simple of choice being Scampi and Chips with salad was very good with generous portions. Nice ambience. Would go again without hestitation and I would recommend it. Gets very busy in the summer months with the large beer garden backing onto the river but again, when we went at this time the service appeared to be fine. If I remember correctly two of us had food from the summer barbecue which was very good although a little high on the price side.

We arrived quite late and staff were very helpful, showed us several rooms to choose from. Our room was spacious, and very pretty. Bathroom recently tiled and very clean. Breakfast included in 85 pounds tariff for 2. Was raining when we stayed but garden and marina views would be lovely in sunshine.

Room Tip: Room with marina view is above the kitchen and the fans run till 10pm. Choose room on street side a...

This is an interestingly situated pub/hotel with lovely views of the harbour and you will feel welcomed but not intruded upon. Food is available nearly all day & is of a high quality-The luxury mango sorbet is "to die for"!
The service is usually prompt, even when there are a large number of customers. The rooms vary in size & some are more comfortable than others but we keep coming back. The managers are French & very efficient-Just don't ask for a blanket if the duvet's too hot-They don't have them in France, duvet?!
An added bonus is that this is a dog-friendly pub. Also,it is very near the open-air swimming-pool.

The Mayflower could be an amazing pub if it really wanted to. To do that it would need to truly appreciate the power of great service, great food and great value, all of which are overlooked here. It is such a shame that the pub that has it all (big garden, spacious interior and rooms) more often that not leaves you underwhelmed. If you complain about the food you are met with initial surprise, excuses and if lucky, a refund. Avoid the burger at all costs - the most basic and popular of pub meals is such a poor excuse here, almost solid and rubbery (The Isle of Wight should sever all ties with it). One gets the feeling that locals tolerate it and visitors are easy pickings whose custom will be replaced by the next. Such a shame it is not as good as it could be.

We are locals and The Mayflower is just down the road from us. We have been coming here for years but I can safely say we have never had a bad meal. The salad is always fresh, food well cooked and well presented. We are talking pub here - not 5 star restaurant and The Mayflower food is pub food but good pub food at a reasonable price. They do a very good curry! The staff and management are always polite and friendly and although when the sun shines, the garden can be packed full, the staff are always efficient and the food comes quickly. The little play area is great, it may be small but children love it! We have not stayed here and therefore have not seen the rooms - however I can tell you that the location is probably the best in Lymington.

For a pub in such a great location you would expect much better service and food. The manageress is very miserable and only seems to be bothered about getting money in the till. I had the cheese and bacon burger for £8.25 and it tasted like one brought from a cheap kebab shop - they even use that orange coloured plastic cheese! For pudding I had ice cream, four scoops but for £5.50!! Service with a smile would help along with a major improvement in the quality of the ingredients used to create their expensive pub food. I won't be returning anytime soon.
