Description: Well you've finally found that pub where Jimi Hendrix jammed before he did the IOW festival. It's changed a bit since then! It's now rather smart. Sort of coastal shabby chic, but it works. It's had a makeover recently and it's now gone "all foodie".  Between heathland and waterside, and en-route for Lymington Pier ferry terminal, The Waggon & Horses has become a well-established New Forest favourite. With Wadworth accredited beer, decent wine and a rather fab local chef, producing very Tom Kerridge-esque dishes, it's definitely a destination venue these days. Don't panic, there is still fish & chips, but it's a bit more up market than the usual. Not scary prices either, just good locally sourced Hampshire products with a little twist. The ambience is nothing short of laid-back but with damn fine food and service.

“A perfect harbour pub - a cut above the usual”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

A fantastic gem of a pub, ideal for me and my cycling buddy as a pitstop for a rest and a refuel. We sat ourselves in the beer garden on a very sunny lunchtime and it was ideal! We had tasty, proper apple juice and for food, fish and chips and fish goujons - it was a delight! Good size portions and very light and fresh. It was beautifully furnished inside and out and the service was attentive and always with a smile. So pleased we stopped off!

“Great food, good ambience”
Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

Had a very good meal here with parents. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, they only dropped one 'dot' because we were left with empty plates for longer than I would have liked. There were plenty of staff around however. The food came quickly and was extremely tasty. We were offered several specials for both starters and mains, and chose the hake. This came with a delicious cannellini bean and samphire accompaniment and loads of new potatoes. The puddings were equally delicious.
The ambience is pleasant and relaxed, and they serve Wadworths ales - always have 3 on draught apparently.

“Great decor, friendly bar maid and blooming great food.”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

My husband and I stumbled across this little gem whilst on our way back home. We thought we would just stop for a pint but the whole place impressed us so much that we stayed to have food.

“No more than average”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

First time we've eaten at the Waggon and Horses. It's been refurbished and with a friendly bar staff appeared welcoming, but we had to wait some time to be shown our table and then for somebody to take our order although it wasn't a full restaurant. The food did not live up to expectation and at best was no more than average. My sardines looked very sorry for themselves and one of our steaks had to be sent back as overcooked. We didn't bother to stay for pudding.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

My partner booked a table for the two of us for a Sunday dinner. The staff were ever so friendly, smiley and polite. We both ordered pork roast dinner. We couldn't fault either dinner. By far the best roast dinner we have eaten out. Didn't have much room for pudding...but the chocolate brownie with icecream just sounded too tempting. It was absolutely delicious! Partner had white chocolate icecream, which he loved. Have already recommended this lovely pub to friends and family, and we will definitely be returning soon. Many thanks to all the staff.
