“Lovely Hotel and staff”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

Lovely boutique style hotel in the heart of Lymington Town. The stylish entrance leads into a light and airy foyer. We were greeted by a warm and professional Receptionist, who showed us straight to our suite with its own private garden. The suite is tastefully decorated with great attention to detail. The modern white bathroom has a large bath and a power shower and a mirror with lights. There is a flat screen TV in the lounge area and another in the bedroom. We were lucky enough to visit during a hot and sunny spell, which made the private garden, with table, chairs and parasol a delight. Breakfast was a five star affair both in choice and quality. Service is efficient, friendly and professional. The hotel boasts two restaurants, a choice of Bistro or Seafood, which the staff recommend highly but we decided to take advantage of the many other eateries in the area. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly.

Room Tip: We stayed in Suite No. 1, which ticks all the boxes.

My partner and I had a "show around" this hotel for a wedding a few weeks ago. The venue in it's self (especially) the conservatory is lovely however the rear garden really let the hotel down for this time of year.... weeds in the garden looked as if they hadn't been tended to for a while and overall the garden felt very drab.
We were informed prior to the meeting that it would take approximately one hour and that we would go through what we wanted for our wedding and that Stanwell would discuss with us what we wanted and make suggestions/ prices that would suit us.... this did not happen, we were in and out in about 10/15 mins! Felt like we were being pushed out the door if I am being honest. I also got the distinct feeling that unlike other venues who would do their best to accommodate us on OUR wedding day, we would have to accommodate Stanwell with regards to what we wanted etc. The first thing we were given was their "terms and conditions" as well as verbally being told their "rules" (you can't do this and you can't do that etc)

When we made a few suggestions about entertainment and other stuff we wanted, I found the response I got from the member of staff showing us around to be quite rude.

As lovely as the venue is I felt really let down after the show around, as if they didn't have the time to see us and actually go through and discuss what we wanted.

On leaving the venue my partner actually turned around and said to me that he thought the lady showing us around was having a panic attack as she was speaking so fast, not letting us get a word in edgeway in order to hurry us out the door!

When I am looking at paying £6000+ for one day I think more than a rushed 10 minutes time is required!

The hotel was in an excellent location. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The Internet was very fast (15Mbs) and appeared to be throughout the hotel. I left an item behind and they very kindly and with no fuss sent it off to me. Highly recommend.

We stayed over at Stanwell House Hotel for my wifes 40th birthday with our 2 year old daughter and had booked a four poster room. The hotel itself is very nice and the room was well presented, well decorated and very clean and looked the perfect choice, until night time. The room we had been put in was above the bar and restaurant so we had to endure noise from downstairs all evening. Obviously this upset our daughters sleep so we all ended up with a very bad night’s sleep. I don’t know whether the staff were expecting us to have had a bad night or not, but not one of them asked if we had slept well, not even on checking out. I filled in the comments card in the room detailing what had happened on our stay but have not even received a courtesy call or email to follow up my comments.

Room Tip: Avoid room 23!

The website misled me into believing we were going somewhere a bit special. The reality was quite a disappointment. Our twin room was very pokey with the narrowest beds I have ever encountered. The 'dog friendly' room was so small we had to push one bed in front of the garden door to make room for our lab to sleep on the floor. No room for a dog bed. The interior design had the feeling of an executive style estate house whose owner believed B&Q homewares to be the cutting edge of chic. The service was a bit hit and miss. Language barriers made ordering white wine in the bar a tricky proposition reminiscent of foreign holidays of yesteryear! Only the breakfast waitress seemed to have English as a first language. All in all, not a 'boutique' experience. More travelodge with a Changing Rooms style makeover.

Room Tip: Don't accept room 6 and bring your own pillows. Then again....go somewhere else.

We had an overnight stay at the Stanwell House prior to a couple of days sailing out of Lymmington. Having stayed there once before, I knew what to expect and was not disappointed.
The hotel is very well maintained despite being an old building and very imaginative use has been made of the public areas. The twin beds in our room were very comfortable if a shade on the narrow side. Food in the restaurant was excellent.

We stayed in a garden suite with a door into the garden so that we could sit outside and read our books. The outside lights that we had be assured came on at 8 o'clock did not function - and no-one could make them work. This experience was further marred by the occupants of the other garden suite allowing their dogs to defecate on the lawn outside the room - not something one wants to watch while having morning tea in the garden. The room was OK, but the toast was sliced bread - and when you only have toast and tea for breakfast it is disappointing. The restautant manager was grumpy and the reception staff not very helpful.
