“Lovely cosy pub, lovely friendly staff, excellent food,”

Staff were very flexible and helpful, helping us to move a table around a little bit so we could sit by the fire and engaging with us in an each time they came to stoke it. The food was fantastic! Wish we'd been in walking distance too cos the beers were great!

“Inedible Food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2013

We visited the Hare and Hounds as we were aware that it was dog friendly. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. We had to sit at a table at the back of the pub as it was a busy Saturday night. Our dog wasn't made to feel welcome as we got told that he can't sit on our laps which as he is a small dog we allow. We went to the pub especially as we thought that our dog would be made to feel welcome but they made us feel like we shouldn't be there.
Unfortunately the food was also awful. I ordered a cheese and chutney baguette which came with chips. The chutney was disgusting and tasted like tomato ketchup which isn't what I expected and didn't go at all with cheese. I ended up scraping as much as I could off and feeding the rest of it to our dog. The chips were nice so I ordered some more to try and fill myself up. The chips came within 30 seconds of ordering which was good. However it was clear then that they had been sitting for a long time and they were shrivelled and cold so even the chips were horrible! My partner ordered the lasagne which was a good portion size but the lasagne had been sitting for a long time and the meat was dried up and burnt. In the pubs defence they were very busy but we wanted a nice relaxing meal with our dog in a dog friendly pub and we were made to feel unwelcome and the food was inedible. We wont return and we have found other pubs which are genuinely dog friendly like the Rising Sun.

“Good portions, fairly priced”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2013

Picked this place totally at random off the internet. What a good choice. The food doesn't arrive quickly but it's well worth waiting for. If you're going here make sure you're hungry as the portion sizes are MASSIVE, and I'm a big eater. There's plenty of choice for vegetarians and us carnivores as well. They not only offer a child's menu but will do child sized portions off the main menu as well. The place is clean, tidy and well decorated with efficient customer service. Nice friendly welcome with attentive, polite staff. Would recommend to anyone.

Wonderful food, massive portions, friendly service. This is the best pub restaurant we have visited in the new forest.

“Delicious”

We had dinner at the Hare and Hounds based on the reviews on trip advisor - they were not wrong. The menu was very varied and we all ordered something different from it. ALL the food looked fantastic on arrival and tasted great.
