“Superb Tapas”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

We had the soup (courgette & leek) which was excellent - so good we asked for the recipe. Then three tapas to share, all very yummy.

“Pure class”
Reviewed April 24, 2012 via mobile

The grand is a wonderful place for that special occasion or on a Sunday to catch up with friends over a class of wine.

But the best bit, is ,has enough choice and patient staff with fussy children , nothing is too much trouble , priceless .

“Bad Day at the Office”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

As we are local we only use the hotel to eat out. Last night was quite the worst visit, service was very poor, slow and dilatory, and there was only another table dining! At one point for several minutes there were no waiting- on staff to be seen, apart from the barman. (We had the feeling that may be preparations were in hand for another event later in the week. Who knows what was causing the poor service, we certainly didn't). The head waitress then re appeared carrying a large steam iron which remained her constant companion for the rest of the time we were there. Which wasn't very long. Having waited 20 minutes for someone to take our dessert order we asked for the bill and left. Hope this was a temporary abberration and not the shape of things to come.

“The Cafe Grand dining has significantly reduced in selection & value”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

My Wife and I went for dinner on 24 March 2012 and were extremely disappointed. As regulars since the beginning of 2007, when the hotel and dining facilities were refurbished, we have always really enjoyed the food, especially the tapas. Alas, these are now very poor and suggest that the dining is moving to a downmarket level with a lower level of prices. The selections are now dreadful, the portions reduced and the accompaniments that used to be served with many dished have completely disappeared. The food itself was ok but again, not as good as that we had become accustomed to. Service was ok albeit a little slow to usual, it was Saturday night and very busy so accept this aspect. Very sad that such a winning format has been lost. The dining area bar has at last introduced draught lager/beer but do not serve as the usual pints, they serve in glasses of 400ml but charge at the level of a pint. Very sneaky.
