We have visited Rutland water on several occasions and it is a beautiful part of the county. Plenty of open space, tracks for walking/cycling and a kids play area by the north car park.

However on the down side the facilities badly need updating. The toilet block near the north car park doesn't look like anyone has bothered to maintain it for years and the cafe is small and overpriced. Far better to bring your own food and have a picnic.

Have a time-share nearby at Barnsdale so been visiting for many, many years. This year barriers have been erected and charges of £1.50 per hour and £3 for 2 hours made as a result the carpark at Whitwell (visited at 6pm Monday) was deserted. This charge is a disgrace when one considers that an annual season ticket is £50 and a more realistic fee would be £2-£5 per weekly season ticket. WELCOME TO "Rip-Off" BRITAIN - ENJOY YOUR VACATION - My Tip - put the Tariff signs at entrance NOT in 1 inch letters after 1/2 mile down to BARRIERS also 8pm "lock-in" is too early, much too early - no charge after 6pm would be more generous

A really well thought out set of visitor stop over points. Most offer cafes, some also have restaurants, cycle hire or water activities.
There's also a shore bus which connects them all.

Brilliant few days.

We have been to Rutland Water on several occasions over the years, and had great days out with the kids when they were younger cycling the shorter route and the full route.

This time we made the mistake of hiring mid-range bikes which we thought would be more comfortable ( they were in fact extremely uncomfortable so much so that we struggled to complete the circuit )

Really recommend checking the seats if you're not a regular bike user or hiring a gel seat.

Would also warn of a couple of dangerous sections where fiine gravel had been sprinkled over Tarmac making it very skiddy.

Still a beautiful area with lovely views and recommend the horse and jockey pub for food and drink on the way but check those bikes carefully

This has now been developed into an all round leisure amenity. I'm sure anyone who likes being out in the country will find something to do here, with easy bus, rail and cycle/car parking. We stayed 3 days and could have easily managed a week.
