Just stayed here for 6 days.We were upgraded and given a very large suite with wonderful views over Rutland Water. This holiday was an exchange from our Madeira timeshare. We never had any housekeeping at all ,never even saw any staff to ask for clean towels etc, hotels abroad usually change bedding or towels once during your stay,so don't expect it here!!
We did not eat in the restaurant so could not comment on that, did look at the menu and like other reviewers we thought it rather expensive. We ate at local pubs and restaurants and did not have a bad meal at all
We did not have any problems with noise whatsoever, but as it rained all week we did not see many people about.
We could be picky about a few things but we were out most of the time, would stay here again but would ask for a lodge ,and hopefully get better weather.

Location great, lodge lovely (fantastic view), facilities good. Losing our arrival night and departing night's sleep was disappointing. Very noisy due to Weddings directly behind our lodge (shouting /music / cheering etc..). Not being a killjoy as we all enjoy a good Wedding, however I think the 10am checkout was a joke, when we have been kept awake until the early hours. Think this checkout time needs to be reviewed for the lodges closest to the Edith Weston suite. We had to drive home exhausted, with young children in the car. The note in the lodge said noise would be limited after 12 - sadly this was not the case. A bit of good management could sort this issue out, which seems to have impacted other guests too!!

A relaxing place to spend a week - we have had a time share here for 25 years and look forward to coming to see friends and family but the same things occur each year for the last five years - we have had two family weddings here so know it well - (1) we have not eaten at the restaurant or bistro for years, its too expensive and small portions. We prefer to travel to Exton or Oakham. (2) There are two Jacuzzis and I love to use them to ease the pain in my back ( it is a Spa after all) The Jacuzzis are both filled with under 14's even when the water is at rest. (3) The venue has two sectors - Hotel and Timeshare - the Hotel has a dedicated Car Park - The Timeshare has only Parking near the Lodges so why let the Hotel Guests take-up these limited spaces for up to 48 hours. (4) Reception Staff please learn how to smile - you may be stressed but we are on vacation.

My first ever 1 star review. And Barnsdale really should have achieved 5 stars. It's a great location, good views, lovely parkland and spa/sports facilities. The apartment we had in the main building was large, really well furnished and clean.
But the management and operation of the Country Club ruins this.

There were two major areas of problems on our week stay.
1. Noise and disturbance during the 3 nights a week when they host Weddings.
2. We are not guests, we're inconveniences to the rules of the hotel.

In detail we had the following problems:
1. Weddings etc - On the Saturday the noise from various hotel rooms could be heard across the resort as guests got ready for the wedding, then from 9pm the DJ could be overheard over the TV even though we must have been 200 yards from the Wedding itself. At 11pm the music is interrupted by the sirens as the police arrive to try and calm down the fights which have broken out, and about half an hour later drunk guests wander around the resort, screaming and shouting until midnight. When we rang and complained the reception said they had no idea there was any noise on the resort from guests, but thanked me as 'The Police are looking for a woman who has been head butting people'
On Sunday, all was quiet until 1am when a party kicked off in the apartment below us as guests returned from the Wedding. This carried on until 3am when we intervened. Again the reception had no idea anything was happening.
We also noticed groups of up to 9 men wandering around the resort during the weekend with open beer bottles and on checking we found the hotel also encourages Hen and Stag parties.
So we felt unless you were in an isolated apartment, the hotel was unsuitable for families and holiday makers at weekends.
Although we complained twice it was clear the night staff have no skills in resolving issues, or are understaffed and unable to cope. The day time management were apologetic, but the weddings are encouraged so it's not something they can solve.

2. We kept finding Rules the staff quoted were not very customer friendly. For instance if you are using a Self catering apartment, don't bother showing up before 4pm. The reception will not check to see if your apartment is ready they simply turn you away.
Or when we visited the Restaurant and Bar - ordering Bar meals as our kids are too old for kids meals but not sophisticated for the Restaurant menu. Before the meals arrived we asked to be seated in the restaurant as the Bar was noisy. The waiter said "No, guests are not allowed to eat or order Bar meals in the restaurant". In the end one of the waiters took pity and switched on the lights in the Breakfast room, and so we ate on our own in the closed Breakfast Room watching the Restaurant guests through a glass window - the Restaurant was 3/4 empty and they ate food from the same kitchen served by the same people, on the same china and we used identical cutlery and napkins. Not sure why the point of isolating us was!

There were several other instances when they gave us rules as reasons why we had to be so inconvenienced. Strange behaviour.

Oh and after the 3am party or Police attendance, don't expect to lie in - every morning at 9am a road sweeper drives around the resort - why 9am?????

Sadly, best avoid this between Friday and Monday.

Room Tip: Another hotel if you want to sleep at the weekend. Fine during the week

We also were in Unit 49 with a private Balcony giving a view over the grounds and in the distance Rutland water. I had been a bit apprehensive about sleeping in a bedroom with a Velux window (childhood memories of badly fitting curtains and lack of sound proofing). Once I pulled the fitted blind down on the window, hardly any daylight got through, and of course it was double glazed, the effect was amazing! I slept very well (not normal away from home). We had free Wifi which was trouble le free as well
This time we used neither the restaurant or leisure complex, but used our apartment as a base for exploring this picturesque part of England. As a couple of old codgers we travelled around mostly by public transport - the buses being free with the appropriate bus pass, that is apart from our time spent in the beautiful small town Uppingham, from there we went on to Rockingham Castle and finally that day we went to Foxton Locks. All very interesting. The other day we used the car was when we visited the lovely Barnsdale gardens and also the Falconry. We also stopped that day to have a walk round Exton village where most houses have thatched roofs.
Other days we took buses to the beautiful town of Stamford, the market town of Melton Mowbray
and the city of Nottingham.
The weather wasn't as good as it had been previously, but where in England was the weather much better?

Room Tip: Unit 49 a fairly compact 2 bedroom apartment, but quite a few steps to negotiate if steps are a prob...

In trying to avoid staying in Leceister we booked this hotel without any previous knowledge, just on the fact it looked nice. We were pleasantly surprised.
The grounds and location are beautiful.
All the staff we encountered were very friendly and happy to please, and even though we had to make a last minute change at reception they made no fuss at all and sorted it out.
We stayed in an executive room which was bigger than most rooms we've ever stayed in. It was spotless and had stunning views over the lake.
The pool and leisure centre was clean and perfectly ok for a dip.
We heard no noise whatsoever from other guests throughout the night.
Breakfast was perfectly average. Nothing special but pretty good.
I have no idea why this hotel is rated number 8 in Rutland on trip advisor, maybe they just need some more happy customers leaving feedback.
Pay a little extra for an exec room and enjoy.

My partner and I stayed at a time share at the Barnsdale Country Club for a week in early May. We found the grounds to be a great delight, well kept and maintained. The chalet was clean and we received a mid week change of bed linen, which was unexpected. The chalet was very well appointed with good heating arrangements. We also enjoyed the excellent indoor swimming pool and the table tennis. At the beginning of the week my sister and brother in law joined us for two nights and we decided to eat at the on site restaurant. We were disappointed. My smoked trout starter had miniscule pieces of fish, about the size of a pencil and a bit of salad. My brother in law and I had rump steak. Both steaks were tough and chewy. We had intended to eat there the rest of the week as a discount was offered. Instead we ate in local pubs to Barnsdale and enjoyed good meals for the rest of the week.
