The warmth and hospitality extended to us by Liz and Malcolm at Pencraig Court Hotel made for a very special stay from the moment we arrived. We were made to feel so welcome and Room 7 (Superior Room) was a real treat. Decorated and furnished with real style and attention to the details that are so important for a great stay.

We had both evening dinner and breakfast during our stay and the food was excellent! We would certainly reccomend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Ross on Wye. Liz and Malcolm are at all times professional and extremely friendly.

We will be going again.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My husband booked this hotel for a weekend break for our 20th wedding anniversary and we were really looking forward to it. On the website, it looked lovely and it's location appeared good, close to Symonds Yat and Ross on Wye.

In truth, the location of this hotel is not so good. You will find yourself on the A40 dual carriageway and follow the signs for the hotel, which basically takes you onto the driveway of the hotel, no more than 100 yards from what is a very busy and noisy major road.

We checked in and were taken to our room on the first floor and immediately became aware of the noise of the road. The window was open but it was a warm night so if we had closed it, the room would have been very stuffy but leaving it open meant we could hear nothing but lorries thundering past on the A40 100 yards away - what a choice.

Then we were shown the bathroom, which we were told was the biggest in the hotel and what a disappointment. Only one bathrobe for two of us and 3 rather thin towels but the worst of it was no shower, apart from those old rubber hose things that my nan had, that you fit a hose onto each tap and the water comes out of this minuscule spray. If you turn the tap on too hard, the hose will fly off the tap and you have no shower. There was nothing to put this hose onto on the wall, it was a hand held hose that would be worse than useless - memories of my nan's one in her ancient bathroom.

We asked for a room with a shower and were told abruptly all 4 rooms with showers were taken. We both took one last look and decided this place was not for us and left. The guy on reception didn't seem at all bothered, said a cheery 'bye bye' as we left, having paid for 2 nights.

I like to think I'm not a particularly picky person but I admit I love my shower, using one at least once a day and to not have a shower is not for me. Granted, this hotel is an old Georgian manor house and is very old fashioned - some might say dated and shabby - but with some serious money spent on improving the bathroom facilities, could be a great place, although the location so close to the A40 will never help.

Luckily, it was only 8.30pm when we arrived and we managed to find somewhere to stay a couple of miles away, which was more appealing and had a shower.

It's easy to be fooled by good photography as we found out but never, ever again.

I stayed in the hotel for one night - it is a beautiful hotel and the owners are particularly pleasant and friendly. The food was good and the rooms clean and spacious

I definitely recommend this hotel - it's an excellent base to explre Symond's Yat and the surrounding areas

We walked into the hotel and realised instantly that it was a perfect place to have our wedding reception! Friendly, intimate, welcoming and relaxed hotel. The food is amazing! Very easy to get to.

The views are outstanding don't take my word for it go and see for yourself. If you are looking to find a perfect English country house hotel - this is it!

(the wedding was fantastic too!)
