This hotel scores well because of the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the quality of the food. The rooms are also great. We had one of the four poster rooms which was spacious and very comfortable although the decoration was a little tired. Whilst it was very clean when we arrived for a four night stay it was clear that daily cleaning was a little rushed and skimpy. Our room was immediately above the bar and whilst it didn't bother us, it might be a bit noisy at weekends or when there are weddings. There was also some road noise from the nearby A40 though again it didn't bother us.
The location is also excellent. It is about a 30 minute walk along the river to Symonds Yat which, whilst lovely, gets extremely busy and parking is very difficult. If you're a walker there are many very fine walks some form the door and Ross and Monmouth are only a few minutes away by car.
The food is outstanding whether eaten in the bar or the beautiful restaurant. Breakfast is a slight or as substantial as you want with an excellent choice and cooked breakfasts are cooked to
order using delicious local produce.
Finally, the staff are really friendly, efficient and very helpful. It really is like a home from home. We will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: Avoid the room over the bar and the rooms at the back may be quieter.

Stayed here as part of a wedding party in sept 2013 this is a mixed review. Standard rooms are small and dated. Regarding the size or room, this is clearly advertised on the hotel website which i did not realise until my return, so it you are wanting a room with a bit of space then book elsewhere or ask for larger room, decor of rooms was very tired and for the size and standard overpriced. had chance to spend some time in the one bedroom suites, these are absolutely stunning and sitting rooms had log burners, beams etc, could just imagine autumn and winter nights in these suites with crackling logs. Gardens of entire hotel are spacious and lovely, the suites have separate parking and gardens, staff seem friendly and hotel is full of charm, I loved the small snug with 2 leather sofas. Surrounding area and scenery is absolutely stunning. I would go back but not to the standard rooms

Thank you for your feedback and noting that we do not hide the fact that standard rooms are small. We actually advise guests who want to relax in the their rooms that it is best to pick a bigger option. I'm glad you liked everything else the hotel had to offer.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a weddong party. Whilst we really appreciated the friendly and relaxed atmosphere (the staff were lovely) and the good food we would think twice about staying here again due to the poor standard of accommodation. We booked a standard room for £85 per night. The room contained a double bed although the size of it was more suitable for a single. The decor was basic as were the furnishings (an unfinished chipboard occasional table without even a cloth thrown over it - what were you thinking of??). The bathroom was depressingly tired and dated. The lighting in both the bathroom and the room was inadequate. I stay in hotels roughly once a month and there is no way that the stansard of the room we had justifies what we were charged.

Thank you for your feedback about the standard rooms here at the Old Court. Some of the standard rooms are nicer than others however they are all on the smaller side and in a part of the building which was built in the 1960s. We plan a renovation of the rooms over the next couple of years but this is a privately owned hotel with no big city backer and therefore we have to make the money in order to re-invest. This year 2014 we have spent £200,000 putting a new roof on the building whihc has been needed for over 50 years (we have owned the building 8 years). We have been slowly replacing all the furniture in rooms over the last 12 months and start on the bathrooms in January 2015. It will take us about 20 years as the hotel needs alot of capital spending on it. For those who would like a bigger room, with better fittings I recommend a feature room or four poster room.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at The Old Court Hotel. We booked late so only a suite available when we would have been happy with a standard room but a very enjoyable stay. The suite had everything you could possibly need but the decoration was a bit tired. Realise they are going for the "oldie worldie" look but really don't like carpet in bathrooms......
The service was good from beginning to end. Friendly but professional.
The best thing was just the age and style of the building, its old beams, and flagstones, and the shields and tapestries and huge open fireplaces. It did not take much imagination to believe you could be at a tudor banquet or waiting for the Lord of the Manor to decide your fate for stealing a chicken. Finally great gardens both back and front and a good place for star gazing. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Suite good if you are into self catering as had a fully working kitchen area.

My partner and I booked a four poster room for 3 nights last week, on arrival we were informed we had been upgraded to a suite which was a welcomed surprise! Check in was simple and the young lady even came out of the hotel with us to show us exactly where the old barn suites were situated! The suite was beautiful and really maintained its character with a log fire in the lounge, four poster bed, and high beams! The bed was very comfortable and I could've stayed there all day! They even came in each day to clean and replenish things we used which I wasn't expecting as it was a self catering suite! We ate in both the bar and a la carte restaurant and both served amazing food at a very high standard especially as it was extremely busy in the bar and we found the last available table! The staff are truly amazing and did everything possible to assist us especially when I asked to rummage through their first aid box as I forgot the dressing for my partners foot after his op! We had been recommended many pubs to go and eat at but we ate here the first night and were so impressed we didn't venture to another place for food! The hotel is within a half hour drive from most places we wanted to visit, castles, canoeing, river cruises, walking, cycling and many more things! Even when we checked out they were more than happy for us to leave our car in the car park whilst we went canoeing! We received a very personal yet professional service from all staff and I have even recommended the old court to my parents for their anniversary! I would definitely stay here again and again! I cannot fault the hotel, staff, food and service in any way. We had an amazing stay and will see you again very soon!

We stayed 4 nights, ate in the A la Carte restaurant twice and the bar once. The food was superb and beautifully presented. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and a real credit to Jono and Victoria. The breakfasts were freshly cooked and delicious, in fact the best bacon I have ever tasted! Great idea and value re booking a table in the A la Carte restaurant at breakfast, to get 20% off that night. Very impressed to see the list of local suppliers - People in Herefordshire are really proud of their county, it's great see that.

Beautifully kept gardens and clean and tidy rooms. When we realised it was so close to the A40, we expected some road noise but it was so peaceful - who could ask for more.

My fiance & I booked this as our last break before our baby arrives in October as the location was far enough away from home but near enough for hospitals (just in case), we were welcomed warmly by very friendly staff & the room was comfortable and quirky - although the traditional low beams were a challenge for my other half being 6ft 4ins - not a problem for me being 5ft 3ins!!! The cleanliness was spot on, meals tasty and fresh - we loved the home made chips, yum, the staff were friendly - despite being incredibly busy and would ensure we had everything we needed, we were sad to leave as it was such a lovely 3day break, the only minor niggle - and it is minor is the size of the television in relation to the room, it was incredibly tiny and akin to trying to read a postcard 12ft away!!!!
