I've eaten here before but this is the first time I've stayed in the hotel. This was very good value as we got a late deal. The room was excellent - the only problem being that it was up two flights of narrow stairs and no lift.
The room and service were excellent - fresh towels, and spotless service every day.
Now - it is on the main street in Ross, so it was a bit noisy. You might want to ask for a room away from the front.
There is parking but it does get pretty full.
All in all, a good friendly hotel.

This is a three star hotel, not five. It is an old building and the floorboards creak. The standard of decoration in the corridors and our room was fairly good rather than excellent. Those are all the negatives. We stayed for 3 nights on a 2 nights, get 1 free deal. We ate in the hotel for the first and third night. We could not fault the food or the service. All the staff were friendly and attentive - they seemed to be happy to be there, not just going through the motions. The bar has a good atmosphere with 2 good real ales. Our stay was very enjoyable and good value.

Ross on Wye is a lovely market town, slightly frayed round the edges but where isn't nowadays? There is plenty to do in the area and if returning we would definitely go back to The King's Head.

We have stayed here a few times visiting family in Ross-on-Wye. Never had any complaints. Good food, pleasant friendly staff & comfortable accomodation. Very reasonable rates, free wi-fi & private parking. Recommended.

Ideal location for a mini break Food and service in the restaurant was very good, comfortable atmosphere especially in 'the snug' which had a lovely warm fire and comfy seating. Restaurant and bar prices not over the top about average. All in all a good couple of well rested nights, better than expected would reccomend it for a nice break with good central location and no noise. D n T from Chorley Lancs.

We didn't book this hotel in advance, but just walked in off the street, so we probably didn't get the best rate, but at £90 for 2 people B&B wasn't too bad, particularly as we wanted a twin room (most hotels have more double rooms than twins).

The room was clean and spacious, with a single bed at one end, and a double at the other, the bathroom had shower gels, hand wash and body wash in nice large bottles, and there was plenty of tea, coffee ad hot chocolate. We had lunch in the bar before we went exploring, and the pumpkin and carrot soup with large chunks of home made bread was to die for! We ate in the restaurant for dinner, too, and the food was very good, if a little pricey. The local ingredients (with the suppliers listed on the menu) for dinner and breafast was a nice touch.

Our room overlooked the back, so was quite quiet apart from the neighbours above, who arrived back to their room at 1.45am and walked around on the really loud creaky floorboards until 3.15am! You can't really blame the hotel for that, but it means we didn't get a good night's sleep, which was a shame.

The hotel has free parking around the back (access via the adjacent arch) which was good. Staff were generally friendly and helpful.

Overall, a pleasant stay, and I would stay here again.

We both ordered the Scollops (didnt say on menu baby scollops ) to get a plate covered in rocket with 3 very small scollops hidden under it, the scollops had not been cleaned still had the roe on them and full of grit no nice at all.
Wife had Salmon with a basil and chilli sauce i had the steak with a blue cheese sauce both sauce`s were very bland and reminded us of the type of sauce you would get in a jar from from a cheap supermarket, not from a Hotel restaurant that pride`s itself on its food.
I think i know what im talking about as i have worked for over 25 years in the catering industry. Value for money NO !!! type of food you could get at a pub anywhere in the UK

Thank you for your review, we are sorry the reviewer you were disappointed with your meal.

Our scallops are bought in fresh and served with a sweetcorn and rocket salsa and are £7.25 for a starter . We do indeed leave the roe on as it is perfectly edible and it is quite a common practice to do. Scallops unfortunately are like sponges soaking up everything and can be gritty even after cleaning.

All our sauces are home-made , the fresh salmon at £10.95 is with a coconut ,lemongrass and chili sauce. The rump steak at £12.75 simply topped with Shropshire blue cheese and butter which is melted under the grill. All main courses come with fresh vegetables a choice of potatoes, we also provide complementary home-made bread.

We regret we didn't meet your expectations on this occasion.

I have just returned from a weekend in this hotel and wish to remark on how good a spot it was.

Can't fault anything about my stay and would say to those who put comments like, " locals looked like they had been there for weeks" that if you do not wish to meet "locals" stay in your room. The " locals" were good fun and very friendly, if the rest of the UK were like this we would all be a lot better off!

The hotel and bar are dog friendly, the beer and food were first class as were the staff.

The room was also fine and what you would expect from an old building, if you want flat walls and concrete floors book a new build.

If I am ever in the area again, I'll be back.
