“A very pleasurable stay, would certainly comeback!!”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

We stayed 2 nights at the Kings Head during late February. Staff were very pleasant and could not be more helpful. Rooms were really well presented with tea and coffee readily available, a super king size bed & en suite
The restaurant was really really good, food and service were excellent and a good wine selection.
The car park was difficult to park but this is only a minor moan!
This was our first visit but not our last. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone for a quiet stay with excellent service.

Room Tip: Ask for room 15, 2 flights of stairs but a really spot.

We stayed for one night for my birthday and wished we could have stayed longer. Beautiful superior double room with luxury en- suite shower room. My husband had arranged for there to be a beautiful bouquet of flowers, gorgeous chocolates and Champagne in the room when we arrived. He also booked for us to have dinner that evening at their restaurant and the meal was absolutely delicious. The whole stay was wonderful and will definately be going back there in the future. We highly recommend this hotel.

We have eaten at this hotel on quite a few occasions, both for lunch and dinner. The meals have been outstanding at a reasonable price. I am always wary of recommending restaurants as sometimes the standards can vary. This one however, is the exception. I hiughly recommend it.

Room Tip: Book early to guarantee a table.

We stayed for one night and wished we had booked a second. Well-appointed room with four-poster bed and luxury en-suite shower room. We had the special February deal which was fantastic value as it included 3 course evening meal for 2, bottle of house wine and 1 night's bed and breakfast stay. The food was delicious, and service was good. Would definitely stay here again if visiting the area.

Room Tip: Room 3 had four poster bed and luxurious en-suite shower room.

Got to visit here as a last minute surprise and had done no research as someone else had organised.
I know Ross-On-Wye quite well as have worked here and stayed here before but never this particular hotel. It is worth pointing out that this is a dog friendly hotel and I was a little concerned about this as I am allergic to them (but love them anyway). There was no need to be worried though, this place was spotless!
Set in beautiful grounds, this place has history and class.
The owners are lovely welcoming, friendly, funny people that did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.

Our room was overlooking the gardens and it was warm, comfortable, tastefully decorated and there were fluffy robes and homemade cookies as well as a fully stocked milk and soft drinks fridge just outside the door.

Our room was called Jasmine.

There is a large open fire sitting room and bar for pre-dinner cocktails where there were a couple of lovely dogs around baying for attention.

The restaurant was very Georgian but the art on the walls was modern (local artist I believe) which was interesting and unusual.

The dinner was beautiful top class nosh. Scallops were divine. Good selection of wine.

Breakfast was the usual selection but included some Irish Black Pudding which my husband loved.

Would love to stay here again. Ross-on-Wye itself is within walking distance and has a fine array of bars.

Room Tip: Jasmine room was lovely

We booked into the Kings Head after first looking at The Royal - enough said. The room at the top of some wonderfully windy stairs was comfortable and well appointed. Would not have recommended it for my 92 year old mother though! We went out for a walk around Ross and met someone who advised us to eat as well as stay there because the chef was a gnats crochet off his first Michelin Star. Which was born out at dinner. The taste combination of baked hake and blood orange was stupendous and the Rump of lamb with its red currant and garlic was a real melt in the mouth experience. Chapeau le chef! The price was excellent too! The staff were friendly and efficient. We would love to repeat the experience. Would like to say that it was all perfect, but the tiniest niggle was the bright blue standby light on the TV which was overpowering and turned into a blue flashing light in the small hours disturbing sleep. Full English breakfast was perfectly cooked and set us up for a busy day scrambling round The Forest of Dean. Thanks for a great stay.

Although we have had lunch here before, we had never stayed, so decided to enjoy the Burns Night dinner and stay the night. It was absolutely lovely, the food was brilliant and the room with its large oak beams and slightly sloping floor a delight. The breakfast was fantastic, and for £8.00 for non residents, I don't know why the good people of Ross aren't queuing up outside!I couldn't finish mine, so there was no room for the generous toast and marmalade after, maybe next time!
