“Stunning location, nowhere preferable to stay in Ross in my opinion”
Reviewed July 20, 2009

My wife and I stayed in Ross for three days in July 2009 as part of a mini Summer 'tour' of Middle England.

Although our half board deal at Wilton Court was a little more than we had originally planned to spend, in our opinion it was well worth the money.

We had a River view room and the view across to Ross itself was just wonderful. The riverside setting of the hotel is tremendous, and if you want a change of surroundings for an evening drink, then the White Lion pub is literally yards away and makes for a pleasant change.

The food at the Wilton was of an excellent standard, with the only very minor grumble being that there were no additional specials to the standard menu. Even so, the choice was still superb and we tried something different each night and were not disappointed.
I noted other people's comments about breakfast being served on cold plates, but we didn't notice this, so perhaps that previous complaint has been addressed. In any case, our breakfasts were brilliant.

The service was also excellent and we found all of the staff to be very friendly and they made us feel very welcome throughout our stay.

There is a very pleasant walk into Ross alongside the river that takes no more than 15 minutes and the 'must see' Symond's Yat rock is just 10 - 15 minutes away by car.

All in all, we didn't spot anywhere else in Ross during our stay that made us think 'We wish we had stayed there instead!'

We would definitely go to Wilton Court again.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Wilton Court Hotel near Ross-on-Wye and I am very pleased to tell you that we had a very relaxing and most enjoyable stay. Trust me; I am not in the habit of writing reviews about anything, but on this occasion I feel that it is only right and proper to do so. The food was absolutely first class and would undoubtedly have put more expensive restaurants to shame. On our arrival we were met by the owners Richard and Helen and we were offered a free upgrade to a four poster room with a river view as the hotel was unuasally quiet. We found the service and accomodation to be exceptional, thanks for a great time and well done to you all, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

Stayed at this hotel for a long weekend and we had a dinner bed and breakfast package which was worth every penny. The hotel itself was delightful, an old building full of charm and character.
The owners were very nice and took time to talk to us and make us all feel very welcome.
The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
The food was amazing, breakfast was a joy all food is sorced from the local area and you could tell, the menu was just the right size each dish was cooked superbly. The desserts were just amazing.
Anyone expecting a hotel which is modern and clean cut shouldnt come here, this hotel is an old building full of charm and chintz exactly how you would expect it to be.
Brilliant weekend was had by all of us.

Great ingredients locally sourced and treated with respect. You order your veg separate so you can have as light or large a meal as needed. A small menu done well with 5 or 6 main courses, the partridge and sea bass were great and the starters superb. The wine list is not extensive but is quite adequate and they can be forgiven that with the high quality food. Not there cheapest but you get what you pay for, our meal for 2 with 1 bottle of wine came to just under £100. I sincerely recommend them.

This hotel is in a good location with a nice river view and the rooms are a high standard. We booked a half board deal and were very disappointed by the quality of the food and also the service and attitude demonstrated by a particular bartender on the second night of our stay. We found the food pretty tasteless, not particularly good quality and not varied - I just don't like knowing what I'm going to eat night after night and a lack of specials means its a dull menu. We would strongly recommend you eat somewhere else.

We booked this through a Sunday Times deal where we had to spend a minimum of £75 on food and drink but got the overnight accomodation free. First impressions were very good. Lovely setting and escorted to our room for which we had upgraded for an extra £25. Beautiful room with river view and a huge bed. Well worth the extra. The bar area and lounge are lovely and we enjoyed a nice drink before our meal. My wife ordered smoked chicken followed by monkfish with crayfish tail risotto - she was disappoined and found the food to be bland and uninteresting. I went for the asparagus to start which was very nice and the fillet of beef to follow. I asked for this to be rare but felt that it arrived the medium side of that. It was though quite tasty. We drank a bottle of the 2004 Chateaux Notton at £29.50 which was very good and I felt good value at that price. The mark up was probably only 100% which is reasonable compared to some better known establishments!

The overall deal was good value. Dinner B&B cost under £150 for the two of us.

There is no faulting the staff, service, food, atmoshpere and the cute and spacious rooms. Nothing was too much trouble for the gang at Wilton Court. My wife and I along with our friends are still talking about the wonderful time we had there. Thank you again.
