“Ideal Location for fishing this area of The Wye”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We stayed here for a five day fishing trip on the Courtfield beat of the River Wye. We had booked double rooms with single occupancy and were alocated rooms 11 and 12 in the outside annex. They were both comfortable and had all the necessary amenities. The only downside was the steep stairway from the main hotel to the car park where the rooms were situated.
The staff were all extremely pleasant, chatty and helpful. The breakfasts and evening meal were excellent, tasty and varied.
We found the hotel a good choice and would recommend it to other anglers.

We only stayed the one night, but found the staff extremely friendly and the food excellent! The room was clean and for the money, we were more than happy. The location is good for the Wye Valley area and I would. Recommend for couples looking for a relaxing break.

On arrival we were greeted with a smile and very friendly approach. However I was disappointed to find that our alloted room was in the annex, a MOTEL style area with no extra security to access to the room. The room itself was adequate at best! The double bed was two singles pushed together which I found that night MY side had a mattress that had seen better days!
Breakfasts the following days were good and full, although the toaster was a challenge.
The staff were very friendly but sometimes a little intrusive at breakfast. The whole aura of the place was run-down, some of the staff admitting that the contolling company didn't like to spend too much money on repairs and contents. They also moaned about the immediate previous manager being a miserable sort.
My biggest complaint was the fact that our room key was lost by staff (stolen?) on the first day. Although I discussed this with the staff they didn't really seem to take it seriously, saying that anyone could help themselves to key from behind the bar. What came to light two days later that my wifes birthday cards were missing from the room (at the time in a bag in the room). It being a special time for my wife, the whole visit to the area to celebrate her birthday, I felt down and let down by the hotel! subsequently I've written to the manager about the incident and todate have not received even acknowledgement. We'll definately avoid this hotel in future.

Room Tip: Be aware that seven rooms are NOT in the hotel building and don't hand in your key when going ou...

We attended a Wedding here recently and we were extremely impressed.
The manager and his very happy staff went out of their way to make sure everyone enjoyed the day. The presentation, service and freshly cooked food was second to none. In our opinion, a wonderful venue.
Well done everyone.

Have to say we enjoyed our stay here, of course it was our wedding and we couldnt find a fault with anything. Frank (manager) was a total diamond along with Rachel (assisant mgr) both were there all through the day, overseeing all the proceedings. It was so relaxing, no stress, if we needed anything, they could sort it. The staff were all friendly, excellent service, food was wonderfull, all fresh produce, cheesecake was lush. The room was clean, four poster was nice and the mattress was so comy i wanted to take it home. credit to everyone, But all credit to frank, he's a great chap, lovely personailty, we will go back, for a meal again soon. deb & izzy

Room Tip: have a four poster, its really comfy.

Stayed here for 32 nights recently. Had a chalet room by the car park, walls were like paper and it wasnt as modern as I would have liked. Each time next door ran the tap or pulled the flush it woke me up.The bar and restaurant lacked any real atmosphere, no manager or figurehead, just a few young staff. No rea welcome or greeting. Average stay.

Room Tip: avoid the chalet extension

Sorry - had to do this under 'Hotels' because it's not listed as a restaurant. We stayed here last year (see my earlier review) and, while renting a nearby cottage for a family birthday house-party, we decided to come back and have an evening meal one night during the week.

The amazing Sammy was our waitress - such a bubbly, happy and efficient young woman, she made our evening very special. The kitchen was a tad slow in producing the food (a slight problem when we had a four-year-old and a baby in a high chair who don't understand the concept of waiting!) but Sammy kept us informed of progress and her smile is so infectious we just couldn't be impatient. Whatever the bosses are paying her, she's worth every penny - and more!

The food, as before, was first-class and the prices are sensible. Thanks a bunch - we're already looking forward to a next visit.
