A fun place to go for an hour or so. Part of a larger complex next to a maze and with a cafe nearby. Very pretty, you walk inside and see butterflies all around you- you are amongst them. Hint - its warm inside !

“Very relaxing”

Enjoyed sitting in the zoo watching all the butterflies darting around. Brochures detailing the butterflies that could be seen together with magnifying glass were handed out by the assistant prior to entering the zoo. It was lovely watching the faces of the schoolchildren who were visiting, as they were obviously enchanted by what they were seeing.

“Very Good Value For Money!”

As a last minute place to go (due to the facd Woodchester Mansion was still closed), we same upon this on the internet.
Deciding to go we weren't disappointed in any way. We paid £7.00 each for a joint ticket for the Butterfly Zoo and the Jubilee Maze. Before going into the enclosure we were given a little run down of the butterflies, a looking glass and some laminated sheets with information about the butterflies you'd find.
The encolsure was rather large and tropical in temperature with all manner of tropical plants there to suit the differing butterflies "home" environments. The cards given to you were really helpful in identifying the various butterfles and help plenty of informatuon about where that particular butterfly lives and what it eats and about it's caterpillar and crystalis lifecycle.
After this, we went to the Jubilee Maze. The gent who built it with his brother was there to introduce us to the maze and we had great fun finding our way to the centre. After this there was a wall full of info about the history of mazes and he difernt kinds of mazes there have been throughout history.
There is a shop there too but it looks like it's only open during the high season.
It will be somewhere I'll go again, but in the summer perhaps as I'd have a go on the mini golf there too!

“Surprisingly deceptive”

We went to this attraction originally for the maze, but brought a joint ticket for both and ended up spending more time watching the butterflies. The place is run by eccentric but incredibly enthusiastic people who obviously put their heart and soul into their work.
Although originally unsure of what lay behind the plastic curtains, upon entering the butterfly zoo you are immediately surrounded by a variety of different butterflies. There are feeding stations on the walkways, where you can get a closer view of them, and you are also given a magnifying glass and identification chart so that you know what you are looking at. To one side, they have a small glass enclosure, housing chrysalis of varying species, at different stages.
After having the place to ourselves, we happily spent over 2 hours sat on the floor having the butterflies fly back and forth around us. They also land on you as you are walking around.
Look out for the bright green and blue butterflies high up in the canopy and the tiny glass wing butterfly.
A fascinating insight into a beautiful insect and the time just flies by (no pun intended).
Having visited in November, we were very reluctant to leave the warm enclosure.
