We went to this attraction originally for the maze, but brought a joint ticket for both and ended up spending more time watching the butterflies. The place is run by eccentric but incredibly enthusiastic people who obviously put their heart and soul into their work.
Although originally unsure of what lay behind the plastic curtains, upon entering the butterfly zoo you are immediately surrounded by a variety of different butterflies. There are feeding stations on the walkways, where you can get a closer view of them, and you are also given a magnifying glass and identification chart so that you know what you are looking at. To one side, they have a small glass enclosure, housing chrysalis of varying species, at different stages.
After having the place to ourselves, we happily spent over 2 hours sat on the floor having the butterflies fly back and forth around us. They also land on you as you are walking around.
Look out for the bright green and blue butterflies high up in the canopy and the tiny glass wing butterfly.
A fascinating insight into a beautiful insect and the time just flies by (no pun intended).
Having visited in November, we were very reluctant to leave the warm enclosure.
