The owners were very accommodating, staying up waiting when we couldn't check in until after midnight! Our room was adequate (we only had the standard, not superior room with the views) with everything we needed, except a TV, which on this occasion we didn't need so we didn't mind. Breakfast was excellent too. Overall they made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed our stay very much. I would recommend to couples or friends wanting a clean, friendly and quiet place in beautiful countryside with fantastic views.

We stayed for two nights last weekend in the loft room. The room was fantastic with great views over the valley. Ali and Andy are great hosts and gave helpful advice on local places. The breakfast on both mornings was brilliant, with local pork. Yum. The weather was wet but this did not dampen the experience. Would definitely recommend a stay at "The Green Whale"

We stayed for two nights in the Loft room, which was spotlessly clean, private and very well kitted out (not only a TV with Freesat but a DAB radio too) The floorspace is generous (plenty of room for our travel cot) although being a loft the headroom can be a bit tight but this will only be a problem for tallies like me. Fantastically comfortable bed with good quality linen, could easily have stayed in there all day and it took the lure of a cooked breakfast to get me out of it. Unsurprisingly, breakfast was excellent and used very tasty locally sourced bacon and sausages. Owners were very kind and accommodating and really could not have done more to help us enjoy our stay

Lovely place to stay. Newly built/refurbished guest house. We stayed in the Loft room, which has a sitting/reading area and was very comfortably furnished, bright and warm. A few of the outside decorations were still to be finished.
It was lovely to visit the Wye valley and Ali and Andy gave lots of advice and maps for places to see. We also especially enjoyed their good cooking and hospitality (breakfast and evening dinner) and the dining room with log fire.
We will be delighted to be able to come back in the future.

Lovely welcome from Ali and Andy on arrival, really friendly and helpful with lots of advice on how to get the most from our weekend.
On our first morning we hired a canadian canoe in Symonds Yat East which cost £38 for the two of us, this took just over two hours and was great fun with fantastic views along the river.
We spent the afternoon walking in the Forest of Dean and again Andy and Ali gave us great advice on different routes to take.
We stayed in the loft room which we found to be very clean, comfortable and had fantastic views.
Breakfast was delicious with high quality food being served (sausages and the granary toast were extra yummy).
Although i went as a couple this time i would not hesitate to come back as a family as there was plenty for the children to do in the lounge in the way of games, books, dvds etc.
A real delight and would come back again to explore more.

This is a nice purpose built B&B in lovely surroundings. Whilst it is very nice - dogs and children are welcome, the hosts are welcoming and the place is lovely and clean there are a couple of things it is worth noting as it may effect your choice.
The room we stayed in was small - sink half the size of a normal sink in the bathroom which made filling the kettle a bit of a logistical challenge, shower no bath. This was ok for us - but worth noting if you like space.
The view out of our room was the side of a hill - more the inside of a hill with the path to reception running down the side - again fine for us as we weren't spending time in our room.
The sound proofing is not great - I could hear snoring from the room across the hallway.
There are no televisions in the rooms - you can watch tv in the lounge if you so desire but not in the room. Not really a problem except I could have done with something to mask the sound of snoring.
The parking is a bit on the snug side if the B&B is full. Not a problem if you have a reversing camera but a driving skills challenge if you don't.
The hosts are lovely. The breakfast is good. The views where you get them are stunning.

Room Tip: ring and ask for the room with a view!

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you did not like some aspects of The Oak room. The room has been used by many people this summer with some requesting it for a second visit. Although it does not have views down the Wye Valley it does have French Windows and a Juliette Balcony that look out on our Tump that is covered with large oak trees. Please see photographs of the room and the view on this site. Not having TVs in the rooms is a deliberate choice, TVs are not advertised and many guests have expressed the view that it makes a nice change not to have a TV. There is a selection of books and games available in the lounge. We like to feel we are easy to approach and offer a warm and personal service and if the problem of filling the kettle had been brought to our attention we could have provided a jug to fill the kettle

4 rooms -, 1 family room, 1 large room with amazing views and 2 smaller rooms, all en suite, all have usual features for your comfort. There is a large lounge, part of which doubles as the dining room. Plenty of maps ,games, books etc.
Breakfasts are varied and freshly cooked to order. Evening meals are available and a menu is available at breakfast for you to choose , food is very enjoyable.
Position of the house is superb ,overlooking the valley, with many walks from the door.
Ali and Andy are fantastic hosts and nothing seems to be to much trouble.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and on doubt will revisit.
