Rather regimented in time for meals every body had to seated at the same time, could not have wine with your meal unless ordered before you sat down very limited selection of food choices, food average, accommodation cramped and stuffy, ball room excellent. Location brilliant for walking.

This hotel benefits from the area which is good for walking. The views are quite special, especially down the valley which is a little reminiscent of lowland Austria. The hotel itself is rather tired and suffers from a very dated alteration which has a flat roof with all the disadvantages inherent in that construction. It was extremely hot in most rooms, especially bedrooms and the dining room, although the excellent ballroom has air conditioning The staff were very polite and helpful. The meals were satisfactory, although breakfast is run on quasi military lines with a gong summoning ALL guests to attendance at precisely 0800 to order their food. This is the first hotel where fruit juices are classified as a course. It would benefit from a buffet first course with the cooked preferences being served later.

Room Tip: The rooms vary in size, especially regarding the bathrooms. It's pot luck. We were lucky

Stayed Monday to Friday on a Buckley's coach holiday. Welcoming, clean and comfortable. All staff were polite and friendly. Meals were good. Served at the table nice and hot with plenty of choice. (The grilled salmon was perfect). Peaceful location in lovely gardens. Lots to do and see in the area. Our trip to the Forest of Dean was great, you could see and feel what inspired J K Rowling to write the Harry Potter books. Lovely villages and towns nearby and lots happening on the river locally. River cruises, canoeing etc. Great area for walking. Evening entertainment in the hotel on the Wednesday with dancing in the ballroom. A local sequence dance club came and some of the guests joined in. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. All in all, a restful few days in Symonds Yat.

The cottage is just OK, nothing special at all. I suppose that's what comes of booking last minute breaks! At least the shower was working well for us and the kitchen was good. I wouldn't say it was exactly peaceful though (quite noisy neighbours and not very private for sitting outside) . The walk down to the ferry across from Symonds Yat was lovely though. But don't think I'd book here again, sorry.

We stayed for a long weekend, and found the cottage to be well equipped, very clean, and certainly very peaceful. There are two pubs within a short walk of the cottage which both served excellent food at a good price. The only slight criticism as mentioned previously is the shower, although electric really felt it needed some sort of booster pump as the pressure was so low. Having said that it certainly didn't spoil a lovely weekend for us.

This hotel is set in beautiful gardens but was sadly lacking in anywhere to sit if you didn't bring your own chairs! Hotel was clean but very shabby needs updating. Breakfast was excellent , dinner very hot but average. Ballroom has very good air con which was very welcome as this was hottest weekend of the year! Strict rules are in force and not to be broken!
