Booked at the last minute and was pleasantly surprised. The entrance hall is impressive, leading to a sitting room/bar and a separate dining room but the bedroom was on the small side. However, it was clean and perfectly adequate for an overnight stay. We didn't dine at the hotel, choosing instead to walk the very short distance in the charming town centre, but did have a lovely breakfast. The staff at breakfast were disorganised (no tables ready, not enough juices available for the number of guests, had to ask for tea/coffee several times before it was bought, toast forgotten about.....) but glad to help when asked. Overall, a nice building in a lovely setting in close proximity to a charming town.

We first stayed here on our wedding night, 42 years ago. The recent Saga 2-night offer gave us an opportunity to return and see how the hotel had changed over the years. It has certainly been developed, with an extension and complete re-organisation of the rooms. After booking I asked to be put in the same room we had 42 years ago and while the receptionists managed to give us a similar view (room 17) our original room no longer exists. The hotel looks good as you approach it and the grounds are maintained immaculately. Inside the reception hall was still impressive, with the original creaking staircase, and the rooms we saw were fine. We had arranged to eat at the hotel on the first night as part of the deal, and planned to go elsewhere for the second night, but having tasted and eaten a superb meal on night one we quickly decided to do so again on our second night and were not disappointed. The standard of cooking is excellent for a small country hotel. Breakfast on both mornings was plentiful and well cooked and the service throughout was both friendly and "there when we wanted it". One of the waitresses went out of her way to find and recommend somewhere for us to go on our full day out which proved ideal for our needs. All in all this was a lovely break and we would not hesitate to stay there again should we be in the area.

Room Tip: Room 17 is on the corner of the new (20 + year-old) extension but being a corner room gives a dual a...

I've visited the Chase several times to meet friends for a light lunch. The parking and ambience are excellent and the staff smiling and on the ball, willing to help. The light lunch menu is very good with more interesting options than the standard pub. Food is beautifully presented and well cooked.
The home made biscuits which accompany coffee are superb.
Prices for full lunches are top average but the lighter meals are very good value.
Having tried many establishment in Ross i would strongly recommend The Chase for it's quality and ambience.

We got an exceptional dinner, bed and breakfast deal - so good that I was worried it might be a tired old hotel desperate for business. What a wonderful surprise when we got there. Fantastic location very close to town but set in peaceful and attractive grounds. Staff were fantastic - so friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and fresh everywhere, and the food in the restaurant was unbelieveable - no wonder it has won an award. If I stay in the Ross area again, I wouldn't consider any other hotel, especially if they continue to offer such excellent value for money. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay (July 2013) so pleasant.

Beautiful country house hotel set in acres of grounds with magnificent trees. Apparently an old hunting lodge, The Chase has traditional charm and lots of character features and has been refurbished sympathetically. Immediately you enter the grand reception hall, it really is quite impressive with its sweeping staircase, high ceilings, marble pillars and arches, and stained glass windows. All the reception rooms are quite grand, but at the same time comfortable and relaxing especially in the Lounge/Bar which opens out onto the decking area complete with tables, chairs and parasols. Sit and sip your coffee admiring the gorgeous view overlooking the distant hills - there's also a well manicured lawn area and gardens. Our bedroom , albeit it rather small, was newly decorated and furnished, with a new bathroom too. It was everything you needed for a couple of nights stay - comfortable bed and peaceful surroundings. We were on a mid-week Groupon deal, which was very good value - the food, both breakfast and evening dinner, was excellent, well presented, good choices and Harry's Restaurant room provided an ambient setting. As an alternative, you could also eat in the Lounge/Bar. The staff were very friendly, attentive, polite and deserve our thanks. The closeness of the hotel to the town was a bonus - walk down to the river for a pleasant stroll, have a drink at the Man of Ross soaking in the sunshine - it's all very compact. The restaurant in town - Yaks N Yetis is to be recommended ( Nepalese ) and well worth a visit. Nearby is Hereford and THE beauty spot which is a must is - Symonds Yat, take the river cruise boat on the river Wye and enjoy the views - absolutely stunning !! Or a canoe if you're more adventurous ! Good walking area and you can cross the river on the ancient hand pulled barge. Some of the reviews of this hotel, I feel were unworthy, as I can only praise it in every aspect and highly recommend The Chase, having spent a really enjoyable break here. This has to be the best hotel in Ross - thank you.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the magnificent grounds would be best for the views.

Stayed 2 nights this week on a saga mini-break.excellent staff, outstanding food and service.the gounds were kept in tip-top condition and it was only a 5 minute walk into Ross.I can understand that it does get noisy on wedding days. Paid a little extra for a superior room which had a lovely view of the grounds(weather was super),the room was smaller than some I've stayed in but was acceptable.Overall very good value for money.

Room Tip: Dont stay on a wedding weekend!!!

My family and I stayed at the Chase Hotel last Saturday night when there was a wedding on. Our family room was located 2 floors above the hotel's wedding suite. The noise of the disco was appalling and went on till 12am. I told the barman we couldn't sleep for the noise and he said the noise wasn't as bad as it usually is and suggested we have a drink with him! My husband complained to the duty manager who said that my father-in-law had been informed there was a wedding on when he booked the room for us, but we were not told on checking in and he offered no apology or refund whatsoever.

We were also charged an additional £40 for using the sofa bed for our 2 children to sleep on in the family room which I felt was extorionate on top of the cost of the room.

On checking out the desk clerk did not ask us how our stay was as she knew we would complain, but asked my sister-in-law about her stay! She luckily wasn't above the wedding room, but was above the kitchen and got some nasty wafts of smelly food!

Not a good experience and I won't be staying at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Don't have room 37 if there's a wedding on!
