Friendly and helpful staff. First class food and wines at very reasonable prices. Our room was amazing and views to match. We tend to stay at big chain hotels but this was so much better, despite having to meet our fellow guests in the car park at 3.30am due to fire alarm sounding!! Even that was carried out so efficiently by the staff. Will be back.

We have stayed in The Royal a couple of times and usually we have had a nice stay.the rooms are a bit tired but usually clean and the view from the terrace is breath taking. We stayed at the end of June and were dissapointed as our room felt like it was at the back of beyond the hallway carpets looked like they hadnt been cleaned in a while and the paintwork was very tatty. The room we had was at the side of the hotel and was quite large but quite shabby. It was a loverly afternoon and we were looking foward to having lunch on the terrace as it was a Monday it was very quiet just one other couple eating at the same time,we were quite happy with our lunch untill a two RATS decieded to join us on the terrace. My husband did inform the young barman and we asked to see the manager who was unavailable. We did manage to speak to Andrew the manager the next morning about the situation and he didn,t seem too concerned but did appoligise and told us he would get in touch with Rentokill as they were aware that there was a problem with the drains under the hotel.I have recieved a letter from Greene king to say that they have been to check rentokills bait boxes and that they found no issues,I don.t know if they don.t believe me but i know what we saw.

We had 2 days exploring the area ! The hotel was very central in a nice area. The hotel seemed tired! An evening meal watching the world cup was spoilt by racist comments made by south african cooking staff. Breakfasts were slow to stop! Not returning ! (We were given money off our bill because of that though)

My wife and I stayed here for one night in May after booking the day before on their website for £50 b&b. We found the rooms to be clean and spacious with an excellent view of the river and castle below. The afternoon meal in the bar was excellent where there was a good atmosphere and also the breakfast was lovely too. Ross itself is a lovely area especially the pubs on the river and we'd stay in this hotel again when we return.
