Stayed for 2 nights, Excellent service from morning to night,Staff couldnt do enough, so friendly and no matter what if you walked towards them they showed excellent manners by letting you pass first, Food excellent,( Friday sizzler night was great ) even offered a cheaper seasonal wine when we asked for chardonney, Room had been painted but fixtures and fittings were a little dated. Yes scaffolding was up on one wall, but so what, the outside was being painted, didnt spoil at all, Local pub I would suggest the eagle inn, and cardif was less than 40 minutes away ( Use the east park and ride) We would like to visit again , Bed very comfortable ....Thank-you to all the staff for making our 10th wedding anniversary so special

Had stayed at The Chase earlier in the year and fancied returning to Ross.
Booked The Royal using vouchers from the local Rag, not something we would normally do but gave it a try. Thought as it was only £14.50 pppn B&B we would have inferior accomodation and service but not the case even though the hotel was full both days (must have been a lot of voucher users). Sure the toilet paper could do with upgrading and there was scaffold partially obscuring the view and probably a few Ghostly Bishops creaking the floorboards in the night but we went to enjoy Ross On Wye not stare out of a bedroom window. The breakfast choice was good and the service acceptable with no great delays experienced. The one evening meal we had was well presented and tasty. Again from the Manager down we had no reason to complain about attitudes during our 2 Day stay. All in all an enjoyable 2 days in Ross was experienced by our party. Would have given a higher rating but Room 14 needs the window fixing please. I find if you respect the people around you it is more likely to be reciprocated.

Just had an excellent stay at the Royal with my wife. After reading the previous reviews, i was a bit wary. I must admit when we turned up the scaffolding did put us off a bit, oh gosh, the hotel is falling down. But not at all, we asked at reception what was happening and they said they outside was being painted, cant argue with that, its better that it looks good than flaky! Check in was quick and courteous (checked in by the manager i might add) and the room was great, although had scaffolding in the window, didnt obscure the view. Yes breakfast was a bit slow, but there were new staff, so we let it slip. Understandable that it took them a bit longer. Plus we came down when it seems the whole hotel had descended on the them. All in all Ross and the Royal is lovely and will look even better when we go back again for a friends wedding in May.

Just arrived home after a two night stay in this hotel where the customers definitely come first.
Reception staff friendly and helpful ditto bar and restaurant staff excellent maid service.
The room was massive with a comfy sofa to sit on to watch the huge plasma screen tv or alternatively to sit and look at the view over the river.
Comfy bed and nice thick curtains on all 3 windows made for a good nights sleep.
Food was excellent and very reasonably priced.
My only small niggle was the wedding party that came into the bar and failed to control th many small running screaming children however once the wedding disco started things did quieten down.
All staff did there utmost to fulfil any requests and nothing was to much trouble.

Room Tip: Definitely pay the extra for a feature room it was well worth it

When we arrived the building was surrounded with scaffolding, not the end of the world but it would have been nice if Greene King had bothered to tell us in advance. Of course they wouldn’t because they would lose business. Having complained we were moved to the annex where there was no scaffolding, but a terrible smell of damp.
We booked this because of the location and the views, well the scaffolding prevented this, as there was no access to the outside viewing area.
On arrival we did book a daily newspaper for the 3 mornings we were there, and you have to play a game to find it, like hunt the paper, clue :- try the dining room; would have been useful to be told this
PENNY PINCHING
Cheap, and I mean CHEAP toilet paper, 2 coffee sachets in the room
They also had fire doors locked, and when this was pointed out, it was not taken well
THE BAR – ok its GK ales, so they are average, but £2.40 for a tonic and a dash of soda is a RIP OFF. The staff, dominate the bar, when they are not working; and one member of staff was under the influence and working, not acceptable
RESTURANT- food is SO average, we went to the KINGS HEAD where they cook the food rather than put it in the microwave
BREAKFAST – well if there was an award for miserable looking people these guys win hands down
In summary no one at this hotel seems to care, there is no manager and no supervisors
If they put a decent manager and team in place this could be a great place to stay, until then, we will be staying somewhere else on our return

Room Tip: ask if there is still work going on!!

Thank you for taking the time to put your review on Trip Advisor and for writing to us. As I mentioned when I spoke to you and in my letter, we are really sorry that you did not enjoy your stay and we have already made a couple of changes to the way we do things and will be reviewing a couple of your other points too. Our service is usually far better and we just seemed to have had a hiccup the other week, which we have discussed as a team and are rectifying our shortcomings.
