“comfortable and welcoming”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Made to feel that we were welcome as we stumbled out of the rain through the front door after risking life and limb crossing the A40 .........not used to moving into fast lane with a boy racer behind me and then braking suddenly to turn across the carriageway. ( townie! )
We were joining old friends for a 50th birthday bash
Cosy fires. Owner Bill also great with the children, they felt important too, and he was happy to cater to their specific needs.
Very good standard of food, lovely private dining room. Furnishings well worn but all very comfy and clean
Stayed in room 2 , very comfortable as a twin, ( wee struggle with saniflo loo ), but did not detract from the ambience.Homemade cookies in room, and supply of fresh milk in landing fridge appreciated
Dogs welcomed, but the environment does not smell at all doggy, the place is kept spotless and we loved petting the house dogs. Thanks Bill + staff.

Room Tip: Our twin was very comfortable

We are so glad that you all enjoyed your family party; apologies for the boy racers on the A40! Our dogs as previously mentioned, love being `mine hosts` and lap up the attention if given, by our visitors..........but are quite clever in keeping their distance from any non- loving pet guests. Many thanks

Glewstone Court is difficult to find but once you do you will be very glad you made the effort. We arrived on a very cold and foggy day in Feb. nd as soon as we opened the front door we were at home. A very warm welcome followed by a satisfying lunch in front of a blazing log fire soon got the ice out of our bones. Dinner that night to quote Michael Winner was historic. Room was warm and comfortable and breakfast the following morning was superb. They certainly know how to cook and look after their guests. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: we arrived without booking and were offered a good deal. the house is in a rural setting so is vey q...

We are so glad you wandered upon us in your travels; we are only a mile or so from the A40 but down a country lane so not obvious to all. The weather this year has been shocking so far as we all know so it has been our mission to make sure all our guests are kept warm and well fed- which seems to have been successful in your case, thankyou for taking the time to post such a good report.

From the moment you step through the door you are made to feel welcome and at home. A beautiful bedroom (Victoria), lovely comfortable public rooms with roaring log fires, charismatic hosts, friendly and efficient staff, and nice little touches throughout give this hotel a real warmth rarely found in quality hotels these days. Plus delicious breakfasts, and dinners that exceeded both the hotels claims and our high expectations - top quality local produce cooked very capably and complemented by an interesting wine list, sensibly priced.

Add to that an excellent location for easy access to the surrounding towns and countryside.

A very enjoyable stay.

We arrived tired and a bit irritible having got lost. It was also almost ten o'clock at night but our spirits lifted the moment we got in the. The warmth of the welcome, the log fires, the dogs, the general impression that we were just the people they wanted to see was wonderful.

A quick whizz up to our room (The Victoria, fit for a Queen) and then down to the bar. Wine and food and good company fully restored us.

The breakfast was superb. Hot plates, freshly cooked food, proper toast, everything was as it should be. Can't reccommend hightly enough.

Room Tip: Our room was the size of a ball room and quiet as the grave. The Victoria did make you feel like a r...

We are so glad that you found your visit to us so welcoming- just what we hope to offer to all our guests. Bill is especially pleased that you mentioned hot plates at breakfast- one of his bugbears whenever we do manage to dine elsewhere! Many thanks.

We had a 2 night break with breakfast and evening meals. The room was large with a great view of the Orchard. The log fire and wood burner in the Lounge was fantastic and matched the warmth of the welcome from Bill the owner. The wine list was vast and the food very good. The black pudding for breakfast was lovely.
The surrounding scenery and castles were great. Take a bike ride in the Forest of Dean.

A very enjoyable stay.

I am so glad to enjoyed your well deserved break; sadly the spring weather has still not arrived and the log fires are still roaring away! Hopefully it will change soon and our guests will have the pleasure of the beautiful Bluebells in the Forest of Dean- a very special sight. Many thanks.

Beautiful dog friendly hotel.

Hotel set in lovely grounds just outside of town centre so nice and quiet. Can be easily walked into town though.

Rooms were beautiful with fluffy robes and hand made cookies etc.

The restaurant food was top class and a good wine menu.

Very comfortable surroundings with very friendly host that did everything to make our visit a good one.

Room Tip: Jasmine room has garden view

I am especially pleased that you mentioned both the fluffy bathrobes- a credit to our housekeeping staff- I hate scratchy ones, and the home made biscuits, although these are so popular at times we have a job to keep up with them in the kitchen. Many thanks for your great review.

We met our friends from Glangrwyney at Glewstone Court again for lunch(£17.50..3 courses) and as usual had a very enjoyable lunch.
We all had mussels for starter and either the salmon or chicken with local vegetables for main then followed with Eton mess or Brioche bread and butter for dessert.
Once again the food and service was excellent and thank you again for making it a most enjoyable lunch.
