“Sadly Disappointed.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

Let me start by saying John and Hilary are really nice hosts but our experience there left a lot to be desired. The farmhouse is in a beautiful spot but to reach it you have to go about 1/2 mile down an extremely narrow and muddy lane. We had an apartment consisting of a bedroom, a tiny bathroom, a sitting room and a kitchenette. The bathroom was tiny with a good shower, a toilet squeezed into the narrowest of spaces and a washbasin (we couldn't get hot water) which was no use at all as it was only about 4ins across and had a cabinet above it. We had to wash at the sink in the kitchen. There had been a slip-up with the provided towels as they were the ones the previous guests had been using and were filthy. They were quickly changed when we brought it to Hilary's notice. The kitchen was quite well equipped but we found that we had to wash everything before we used it as the previous guests hadn't been over-fussy washing them. There was no dishcloth nor teatowel and the provided paper towels were quickly used up with no spares at hand. The hot water tap produced just a trickle and took two or three minutes for hot water to start flowing. The sitting room had glass French windows which would be lovely on a warm summer's day but they wouldn't close properly which is not good this time of the year. The sttee in the sitting area smelled and looked none too clean. I am really sorry to give such a poor report but all this was exactly as we found it. If I were to make a constructive suggestion it would be to dispense with the kitchen and improve the bathroom. The hot water system needs sorting, the French doors repairing and more attention given to cleanliness and provision of things like towels, etc.

Room Tip: The rooms in the house may be much better in the main house.

We were very disappointed to receive this review We did realise that the couple staying with us were not happy to the extent that I asked them directly if there was a problem, apparently not ,we were informed ,it was just the dreary weather. It would have been useful for some comment to have been made to our faces and give us an opportunity to rectify things There are some issues here that we will address but in mitigation we would like to point out that we have had some" long stays" in the apartment ( two and three weeks) and they were delighted with the facilities.

A very friendly welcome from John started our one night stay at this lovely B&B. A pot of tea and some cider cake and a cider and perry tasting in the "cider cellar" followed. We ate at the White Lion pub nearby as there were preparations for a 200 person family wedding reception at the Broome but they served Broome Farm cider & perry too. Our room was comfortable and quiet and all aspects of the breakfast were excellent. We'll definitely be back there for a longer stay next time we're in the area.

We are looking to relocate to the county and so decided to take advantage of the half term and go on a mini break. I looked for a few B&B's but this one had some great reviews on here, so decided to try it out. We had a lovely warm welcome from both John and the weather (the only decent day) some lovely cider cake and a nice pot of tea. Had I not been heading out again that evening I would have certainly tucked into the jug of cider which was offered.

The room was a good size and very comfortable. We had the luxury of being asked when we would like breakfast, now not being used to this, found this a nice touch (precribed breakfast times can sometimes feel regimented) The breakfast consisted of some lovely fresh strawberries, apple juice from the farm, cider sausages (made with cider from the farm) can you see the theme?? Local produce cooked perfectly what a great way to strat the day. I did get the cider the next day and went to bed feeling rather content for some reason - I slept well. Overall the stay was excellent despite the weather, we were made to feel very welcome and I would reccomend this B&B without hesitation and will do to friends and family (especially if it means they wont stay with us when we move!!!!)

We have been looking to stay at Broome Farmhouse for some time but it has always been fully booked and now we can see why! This traditional B&B is in the most perfect of spots, some way down a lane well away from the main roads which means it's really quiet. It's part of a working cider farm and so if you are keen on cider it has to be a place to try. The hosts, John and Hillary, are extremely welcoming with nothing too much trouble ( even to the extent of Hillary doing a bit of emergency washing for me after I had an accident with a muddy stream!!)
The breakfasts are really very good with a host of home made jams, marmalade and no sign of any UHT milk within a mile. The bacon and sausage are a real treat, one of the nicest I think I've ever tasted and with really comfortable rooms this is certainly a place that we will return to.....couldn't fault it

We stayed at Broome farm for a couple of nights mid week. It is lovely place in a nice setting. Typical farm house rooms but all the extras of a top hotel. Good range of tea, coffee, bottle water etc in the room with fresh milk each day. Brilliant range of toiletries in the bathroom. Our room had a hair dryer, tv, dvd player, choice of DVD's clock radio/CD player an air con unit and even a sewing kit. The breakfast was lovely with a wide range of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and a full english. nice welcome and jug of cider on arrival. Cider cellar on site where you can buy the cider. Only down side is it's too far to walk into Ross on Wye and while we were there they had builders digging up the drive so the peaceful setting ws disturbed half 8 every morning. Apart from that would recomend Broome farm. The whole place is beautiful with some real breath taking views, especially at symion Yak. Goodrich castle is a great few hours out especially in nice weather.

We have just returned from an overnight stay in this lovely guesthouse. Set in a cider farm, this lovely place is like staying with good friends. On arrival we were greeted with " shall I put the kettle on ? " from John the proprietor and " What about a piece of the wife's cider cake?". This has to be the best B and B that we have stayed in , the rooms ( only 3 ) are comfortably furnished in country farmhouse style and have flat screen TVs , radio alarms and a lovely selection of beverages with fresh milk..The breakfast was outstanding with locally sourced ingredients. There are walks laid out around the cider farm and you may even spot an alpaca or two peeping their heads out of the adjoining barn.
Thank you to both John and Hilary for their hospitality.

We usually book into a travel lodge etc but we thought we would have a change and we couldnt fault it, we were made very welcome. We asked for sandwiches which were the best ive had in a long time, breakfast was great, everything you needed for a long jouney ahead. I would highly recommend The Broome.
