We met up with family who were staying at this perfectly located hotel.
The hotel is beautifully decorated in a clean contemporary beach design. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant overlooks the beach with the waves lapping at the decking area beyond the French style windows. We enjoyed an absolutely perfect meal!
Definitely a must if you stay or visit the area.

We made our booking quite late in the day and were worried that getting in so easily may not have bode well.

The bar is very small and so was my wife's Margareta! Other drinks fine except for the irritating wine list which is muddled and in places gives details of the staffs favourites! Who care? Self indulgent twaddle.

Service was very good, the staff pleasant and the food very good. Quite why you would serve meat on a dubious wooden board is a mistery when a proper plate is required.

Puddings were nice and overall a much better experience than many previous visits!

Not cheap, especially some of the fish, quite how a mackerel could be worth £15 is probably one for another day.

Well worth a visit if you can ignor some minor irritations.

When visiting Devon, I often take morning coffee at Tidesreach Hotel in South Sands, Salcolmbe, where the welcome is superb and where the coffee is served in proper coffee pots giving you at least two cups each and where their biscuits are define. For a change, I decided to go almost directly opposite and try out the South Sands hotel. Guess what - morning coffee is served in cups so no chance of a second cup without paying for it and for a 4 star hotel I was staggered that you are not able to purchase biscuits, toasted teacakes or croissants with the coffee. I shall NOT be going to the South Sands again for morning coffee.

We made a return visit to South Sands on our autumn family holiday last week . We had an excellent lunch last year, we dined as a large group with 3 small children our food and service were excellent ,welcoming staff and it was a memorable luncheon so we decided to return. We were disappointed this year , the bar staff found it more interesting to mess with the fire than ask if we would like a drink or to even say "with you in a moment folks " The first waitress struggled to smile when taking orders and delivering food ,we fortunately then had another waitress who could smile .The meal was good and nicely presented. The venison casserole and red cabbage were very tasty and the chocolate sundaes scrumptious . I am sorry this review is a little grumpy but part of dining out is service and this is a holiday hotel! Had lunch at South Sands on Saturday, only 3 tables busy in restaurant so lacked a little in atmosphere but views lovely as is decor. Deck was full of those having a drink and would have liked to be offered a table outside but we weren't. Food was great especially the sole and service good. Expensive for lunch £180 for 2 starters 4 mains 1 dessert, 4 coffees and 4 glasses of wine. Would go again for a treat. Parking poor - opposite hotel and full when we arrived.
