We were looking forward to a special meal out at the restaurant at the south sands hotel. It did not start well when, in an almost empty restaurant we were given a table overlooking a store cupboard, instead of one near to the view which we had came to look at. The menu choices seemed limited. I had the posh fish fingers which were overcooked with a lumpy tartar sauce, and we then shared a brill dish. The fish arrived but they then took it away to fillet it. By the time it was returned our bearnaise sauce had a skin on it. Again, the fish was overlooked, which is surprising given the Mitch tonks links suggested. I am sorry but if you cannot cook a simple white fish, when you are supposed to be a fish restaurant, there is no hope. The service was akin to fawlty towers. We will not be going back.
