“Perfect 'Family-moon' Idyll”
Reviewed July 30, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

My husband and I took our 4 children to stay at Furzeland Down cottage for a week to celebrate our wedding the week before. It really was the perfect place to spend quality family time. Our children range in age from 7 to 15 and it can be hard to find things we can all do together but here we played, swam, laughed and made valuable memories. We explored the beautiful grounds around the cottage and played hide and seek. The children swam every day no matter what weather arrived. We all enjoyed the games in the garden and in the house when it rained. My youngest daughter adored the "magical bed" on the mezzanine and we all loved the attention to detail. The children found a new treasure to look at every day.
The cream tea on our arrival was delicious and our scones were even heart shaped to mark the occasion! Rosemary and Gerald were lovely and so helpful. They even gave us a wedding card upon our arrival which we were very touched by.
The cottage has been lovingly and tastefully decorated to make guests feel welcome and comfortable and we all agreed the beds were the comfiest we'd ever slept in!
We all loved the Tree Surfing at Tamar Trails nearby (courses for both age groups and the adults could go too) and we hired bikes and explored the forest and mines. We were only sorry we didn't manage to also do the canoeing and the Big Zip.
We visited the aquarium at Plymouth then headed into the town for a walk around the shops and stopped off to paint pottery at Clayart.
We also managed to squeeze in a trip to Dartmoor Zoo stopping off to paddle in the River Dart on the moor on our way back to the cottage. It was truly breath taking and looked straight out of Middle Earth!
We really can't recommend the cottage highly enough. It was the perfect place to bring the family together and really enjoy some quality time. Huge thanks to Rosemary and Gerald (and the lovely Bella!) and we really hope to come back one day.

Thank you Sam for the delightful review of your stay at Furzeland Down Cottage. It was really lovely to meet you, Ben and your children.
I am so pleased you had such a marvelous time on your 'family-moon', making the most of the cottage, pool and grounds.
You visited lots of family friendly places while you were here, which I am sure will inspire others to visit. Indeed the river Dart at Bellever Forest reminds me of Middle Earth too, if there were Hobbits they'd definitely live there.
I hope we can welcome you back again one day.

“Lovely place to stay, but not 4 bedrooms.”
Reviewed June 26, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Stayed at the cottage with 3 generations of the family in June and it's absolutely lovely. The garden is great for youngsters and the pools a welcome addition on a hot day, which we had quite a few of.
The cream tea on arrival and milk in the fridge is a really thoughtful touch to make your arrival extra welcome.
The woodland walk was great fun with my toddler she loved being out in the countryside, the map in the welcome pack is really useful. If you do go in to the woods watch out for ticks, we had a few to deal with after our stroll.

The kitchen is well equipped and you'll not find a better equipped one in any holiday rental.

My only complaint is that the cottage only has three true bedrooms, the cabin bed is on the landing and isn't private. The result was that my 18 month old ended up in our bedroom which was not as planned and resulted in us disturbing each other.

Thank you for coming to stay at Furzeland Down Cottage.
So pleased you made full use of the garden, woodland and pool - you certainly enjoyed very good weather during your days away.
The mezzanine bedroom with its curtained cabin bed is a particular favourite with many of our guests, indeed we have youngsters squabbling over sleeping in it...sorry it didn't quite work out for your little one.

“Excellent stay”
Reviewed July 23, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

What a fabulous cottage and lovely owners. The cottage was well equipped and Rosemary had thought of everything. Trouble with the original booking but Rosemary quickly sorted this. We stayed for my brothers wedding and what a fabulous base. We also had family come and visit which was lovely. Lovely garden with pool which we used every day due to amazing weather.
Would definitely stay again, very very impressed.

“Brilliant stay over New Year break”

We stayed here over the new year break, four adults, two toddlers and two dogs. The layout suited us very well, the house had everything you needed for a relaxing stay.
The location meant you were close to several supermarkets and a lovely high street. The walks were fantastic too.
Upon booking we had several issues, nothing to do with the owners at all but Rosemary the owner was so, so helpful and resolved them quickly and efficiently. Upon arrival we had a cream tea, bubbly and dog treats - a really lovely touch!
We had a really lovely stay.

“Absolutely perfect”
Reviewed April 20, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We spent four days at Furzeland Down Cottage with our 6 year old daughter. The house itself is lovely - a real home from home. The beds were really comfortable as was the sofa. We didn't use the log burner but it is a great addition. On arrival I spotted some lovely furry blankets on the sofa, ready to curl up in front of the TV ....I knew the cottage was made for me!

The kitchen was amazingly well equipped, everything has been thought of. The owner, Rosemary, couldn't have been more welcoming and we came back to the cottage to find freshly baked scones, fresh chicken eggs, dog treats and even a bottle of bubble mix for our daughter.

The swimming pool was enjoyed by my daughter despite it being April! The pool house with hot shower and changing room was a great bonus. I walked our dog in the beautiful grounds and negotiated my round with a perfectly hand drawn map that was left in the welcome pack. Being able to take the dog to such fine accommodation was a real attraction too.

All in all a really lovely place to stay and will definitely return to explore some more!
