After a day out we decided to stop off at the royal standard for a meal for the first time. We found the staff friendly and welcoming, service was great, food was lovely, we will defiantly return again.

“Terrible Sunday lunch”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

This pub has re-opened in the village - which is a fairly unusual occurence. It was soo good to have pub in walking distance in the village. It started off well, but recently we went for Sunday lunch and it was terrible. We all had roast lamb and it looked like it was a factory produced slices reformed joint - and it was also tasteless. The vegetables were so UN-cooked that it was ridiculous and they were chewy -microwaved?? When we commented on the vegetables the waitress giggled and said that someone else had comlained about them recently. DUH!!
We did not stop for a pudding and on returning home cancelled another reservation that we had made for Christmas.
Pubs like this cannot afford an off day. We're voting with our feet back to the pub that is not in a convenient walking distance, but can be relied on for consistantly good food - Peter Tavy Inn

“The only car in the car park !”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

A sure sign to be careful. A bar man who admitted to being his first night, when asked for a tonic with a dash of lime started to pour the lime cordial into a wine measure. The waitress when asked what sort of pastry on the steak and ale pie told us she could not speak English ! We searched for the advertised spinach and mushroom in the pie without success, hard pastry and small portion. The ( cold ) fish pie turned up in a dish on a small wooden chopping board, and comprised a large amount of mash and a small amount of mashed fish.
At least the salad was good.
No wonder we were the only 2 in the establishment.

“Excellent!”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

This pub recently re-opened and is a lovely welcoming place to go for a meal.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful, especially Emma and Ollie, the atmosphere is pleasant and the food is superb.

Their butternut squash, beetroot and red onion lasagne is very good, hope they keep it on the menu!
