“A warm welcome and good food”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

If you want a quick take away or a sit down meal, you will not do better than the 'Tavi Friar'. The food is freshly cooked and the staff friendly. The restaurant is usually busy so it is good to book in advance or go early. I regularly buy 'fish and chips' for people visiting me because I know that they will be delicious, hot and fresh.

“Device was impeccable!”
Reviewed November 14, 2012 via mobile

Dropped in for a quick lunch and although the food was not fantastic our waitress (laura) definitely made up for it! She was attentive and very polite, she gave my little one colouring to do and also a free scoop of ice cream once he finished. She was more than happy to sort any problems we had. She made out visit a lot more enjoyable than expected. Fantastic service and very clean restaurant!!

“Excellent service and food, we went back twice”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

We were on holiday in Devon staying near Tavistock. Having had a long drive down we needed to eat and feed the children with something quick and easy and the Tavi friar looked a good bet. It was really full in the restaurant (a good sign), but they were really accommodating and fitted the 5 of us onto table designed for 4 rather than waiting for a table. The staff are all young, but very friendly and helpful not at all the surly teenage waitress you encounter in lots of places. Food arrived pretty quickly (the meal deal all round), good value for adults and children alike and very very good fish and chips. So good in fact that when the children got the chance to choose where we were going for dinner later in the week the usual suspects of McDonalds or Pizza Hut didn't get a look in (just as well as they are both a longer drive away) and we were back to the Tavi Friar (having booked a table first). Much quieter in there the second time, but no less impressive food and service. On both occasions they brought colouring books and pens to keep the children amused whilst we waited which worked really well.

“Average chippy...”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

Very very average fish and chips but not really spoilt for choice in Tavistock. However my friend has celiacs disease and they do wheat and gluten free fish and chips seven days a week!
