“The real deal.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

Proper local pub, serving really nice pints and completely average pub food. Great friendly staff and a landlord who went out of his way to make us welcome.
Could help themselves by advertising a phone number and not sending their chefs home early. The first time we arrived chef had gone half an hour before they stopped serving food. We had crisps and a pint, then returned!

“Almost a Cornish pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

A pub of great character beside an ancient crossing of the Tamar, the bridge dating from the 15th century. There is a small and good range of well kept beers, including Cornish (two varieties at the time of our visit). The food was most enjoyable: there is the usual range of foreign favourites (mushroom stroganoff, tortillas, lasagne) but also good English fare: fish and chips, steaks, barbecued ribs, etc. The helpings were generous, except for the scampi, so that’s the one to go for if you have a small appetite.
Although Cornwall is only about three minutes’ walk over the bridge there were no pasties to be had—a shame as they go so well with the Cornish ale. But nevermind, you can always carry on into Cornwall and find some there.

“Lovely pub, lovely grub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

A very old inn that has not been 'done up' in years. Nice locals who are very welcoming and friendly. The specials menu, which is much better than the usual 'pub grub', changes according to what is fresh and available locally and there is always a selection of standard items so if you fancy a good plate of ham, egg and chips or a steak then that is always available as well. The kids are always welcome at lunchtime (but not in the evening) and there is seating outside if the weather is not too inclement.

Went on recommendation last weekend and glad I did, fantastic stuffed pork and hubby had one of the best beers he's sampled!

“Always reliably good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

We do live very close and don't use often enough!
Food is always good and would recommend.
I do have friends who have been upset by the child in their party not being very welcome even though he ate an adult portion.
We love the specials board and the scallops are SO good.
