“Wonderful stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

The very helpful Tavistock Tourist Information office recommended Boyton Farm to us, for which we are truly grateful. We were two couples and the two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom were ideal for us. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well kitted out - every little thing you could think of was supplied. The fresh flowers and fudge were a special touch. The owner, Russell, was extremely friendly and helpful. We were advised by the Tourist Information office that 'only a continental breakfast would be provided'. Well what a continental breakfast! We were provided with three types of cereal, fresh fruit, fresh milk, juice, butter, jams and preserves, meats, cheeses, yoghurts, and two freshly baked loaves. The farmhouse is only 10 minutes from Tavistock in a beautiful location, and within a lovely walk of Whitchurch, where we had a wonderful meal. We also had the use of a lovely section of garden, surrounded by chickens and horses. Would thoroughly recommend others to stay here, and would definitely stay again ourselves. Value for money was outstanding.

We were drawn to Boyton Farmhouse by the photos on the website - the bedroom had exposed beams and had been beautifully decorated, and the farmhouse was located off the main road making for a rural and peaceful hideaway, This was exactly what we were looking for and it lived up to the pictures that had been advertised. We were met by a very friendly welcome from the owner. He showed us through our own private doorway (a beautiful rustic wooden door – not just any old door!) and up our own flight of stairs leading to a lower bedroom. We continued up the stairs though, to the second and larger room (their policy is to keep that lower room empty unless a group of people stay in the two rooms together, so that you’re not sharing bathroom and kitchen facilities with strangers). The kitchen is modern and perfectly appointed, with some lovely touches that made our stay even more comfortable. They’d put out two small bottles of wine, some local fudge, flowers, fruit, yoghurts in the fridge, tea (even decaf), freshly ground coffee, a cafetiere, and all the crockery and cutlery one would need to be self-sufficient for days! The bathroom was lovely – also very well appointed and beautifully decorated. The bedroom had the real wow factor with the exposed beams, high ceiling, wooden flooring and beautiful country-style furniture. We were in heaven!
The continental breakfast was placed in the fridge for us in the evenings whilst we were out, and was a delicious and filling start to our day. We tried the local pub (The Whitchurch Inn) for dinner, and the food was really good there too.
If you’re staying in the area, don’t bother with one of the overpriced and tired hotels in the town centre. Go to this gorgeous place - you will not regret it!

Thank you for taking the time to write. Really pleased to have made a difference to your holiday. You're right about the place being a 'hideaway', several of our guests are returning to do just that - we offer a reduced self catering rate from 5 days. Best wishes, Julie & Russell.

A truly beautiful guest house with spectacular views. Gorgeous interior, comfortable, clean and very homely. We had a beautiful apartment to ourselves at the top of the house which contained a lovely kitchen so we could cater for ourselves. A lovely continental breakfast was laid out for us each morning.
We would love to stay here again when visiting Devon. Highly recommended.

Thank you. The studio kitchen has really added that 'wow' factor for many of our guests who want a really special hideaway - having this wonderful place all to themselves! We hope you return to Dartmoor.soon. Best wishes, Russell & Julie.

We stayed here for two nights while in Devon for a family celebration. Julie and Russell were the perfect hosts (in my mind) welcoming and accommodating whilst also giving us our own space too. They gave us a "cold" breakfast everyday of cold meats, cheese, jam, cereal, etc, with fresh loafs of crusty bread were provided as well as even providing a gluten free loaf for me. The farm is beautiful and picturesque, with chickens in the garden out front, and horses and sheep in the nearby field. My son loved staying on a "farm" and seeing all the animals. It's not your typical farm with the smells and mud that accompany it. This is a clean, neat and pretty farm, with beautiful countryside surrounding it. The accommodation was more like a self contained apartment, with a large double bedroom at the top, where my mother slept in the big double bed, and my 27 year old brother in a cot bed set up in the same room (it is a very big room with a sloping roof ceiling, with a sofa and TV in it). The bathroom is lovely, with a roomy shower (no bath) and white fluffy towels. The is a small kitchen next door with a breakfast bar and stools. My husband and I stayed in the smaller double room downstairs with our 5yo son staying in a cot bed set up at the bottom of the bed. This didn't leave much room, but it didn't matter, as it was a comfortable bed, and the flat upstairs was big enough. The only downsides, which were far outweighed by the good were that the TV arial wasn't very good, and no fancy toiletries, but the loveliness of the flat, farm and surrounding area more than made up for this, so I wouldn't knock off a star for that. Who wants to watch tv in such a lovely place anyway. I would highly recommend Boyton Farm, and at such a reasonable price too!

Room Tip: The double room upstairs was the best room.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. We value your comments and believe there is always room for improvements. Although we are only 2 miles from Tavistock town we are 'hidden away' on the edge of the moor and being so private and rural we do sometimes struggle with the TV signal. We have put boosters in each room which work well although understandably sometimes they get moved around. We will now be checking they are in the correct position for a good signal as part of our room preparation regime. We will also look at our toiletries. To date we have provided good quality and functional packaging to suit our family clients with children, and we will now look at providing a more bespoke selection for our couples. Thank you.

We set out to wild camp on Dartmoor but with the horrific rain (worst we had seen on Dartmoor) we woke up in a river the first morning with everything soaked. Packed up, drove to Tavistock tourist information to find somewhere more hospitable to stay. The picture of Boyton and the description of being quiet and rural are what sold it to us.
We turned up bedraggled and gutted that our wild camp had been cut short but we were so please with what we had found. The fact that we had our own little kitchen was awesome as we are quite private people so not having to have breakfast in a communal area was very welcome. The breakfast choice's are plentiful as are the amounts that arrive. We did not have wine and fudge on arrival but maybe they do not do this anymore.
The rooms are absolutely spotlessly clean, probably the cleanest place we have stayed. All the decor is very well thought out and is of a very high standard. Little touches make a big difference. Also, very peaceful with no road noise, just the sounds of nature.
Felt so relaxed here, honestly such a lovely place to stay and we are already looking forward to being able to return.

Russell and Julie are wonderful host. There farm with chickens and 2 horses (sparky and smarty) is great for children. They're also very generous in letting us use there trampoline and gave us 6 freshly laid eggs..!.
We had the top floor which was more like a self contained apartment and was perfect, but be warned that it is 3 flights if stairs, for some that might be a problem, but there are other rooms lower down.

We found this B&B by chance, thanks to a poster outside the local tourist information centre. Initially we were looking for accommodation for only one night, but when we saw the quality of the B&B we decided to extend our stay to include the last three nights of our holiday - we would have stayed longer if we could!

The accommodation comprised the top floor of a beautiful farm in an unspoilt corner of the Dartmoor National Park, but only a 15 min car ride from the centre of Tavistock (one of the UK's best market towns).

The accommodation was beautifully furnished and comprised a double room, shower room and kitchenette. We were asked to select what we wanted for our continental breakfast from (an extensive) list of items - these were then placed in the fridge in the evening, so that we could help ourselves in the morning. This flexibility was excellent and suited us as it meant that we could get up at whatever time we liked.

Our hosts seemed to have thought of everything, even a map showing a local walk to a nearby pub through picturesque meadows. The wine and fudge were another nice welcoming touch when we arrived (the fudge was so good we bought some more in Tavistock to take home as family gifts!).

We’d happily use this B&B again for a longer stay and would recommend it unreservedly.
