My wife and I found Russets to be a very comfortable retreat. Perhaps slightly unusually for holiday-letters we spent 2 months here (Nov-Dec 2014) while waiting for a property purchase to go through, using the cottage as a well-placed base from which to get to know the nearby towns and villages, including some excellent gastro-pubs and restaurants, and a charming little cinema in Uckfield, not to mention the numerous rural walks.
The cottage is exactly as described. Well furnished, well equipped, well decorated, wonderfully quiet apart from some distant birdsong and the pacifying hoots of the local owls every evening. Of particular pleasure was the Egyptian cotton bed linen, refreshed weekly and the tree filled outlook from every window - opening the curtains was something to look forward to for a change!
Negatives? None of major significance. But it is fair to say that the available Broadband is slow and mobile phone signals rather patchy and anyone over six feet tall may find the shower space somewhat stunting! Despite the cottage being in a duplex structure, the layouts are cleverly done so that neither unit was ever found to impose on the other, audibly or in any other way.
The proprietors, Joan and Jim Cooper, who live a minute away, are very pleasant, courteous and accommodating people, for whom standards clearly matter. Joan was always on hand, invariably dealing with any matter promptly and attentively, without ever being in the slightest way obtrusive. We would not hesitate to recommend a stay at Russets.
