“Not quite as expected”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We were driving by on a Sunday afternoon and saw a sign saying 2 courses £15.00. And then another sign saying Marco Pierre White. We assumed we had hit a jack pot.
We were shown to a table in a very dimly lit room. The table was at the top of some stairs and so a screen had been placed to stop you being walked into. However, the traffic coming past the table was rather fast, frequent and loud.
The starters came very quickly and were nice. Then it all went wrong. We sat for about 30-40 minutes and waited for our mains which arrived stone cold. These were returned and ironically the same plates of food came back to us only minutes later. They had reheated the veg and put my fish and my friends veal back on the plate cold. It did not help that the plates were not warmed either. We explained it was still cold but by now we were hungry and bored of waiting so tried to eat the meals. The veal which was cold had become far to chewy as it was rare and had no heat through it.
We decided to skip pudding and leave.
The bill turned out to be £22 a head not £15 as advertised outside. £14 was removed from our bill as a 'gesture'. But it was just not good enough and a very bad and inaccurate excuse as to why they were serving cold food was given.
Another table were also complaining just before we left that they too were served cold food.
So not good Mr White! We would not be returning again which is a shame!

“Excellent restaurant, quality food but you pay for it”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Have eaten here a number of times. The quality of the food is very good, service is also good and a marked improvement / standard for pubs / restaurants in East Sussex to bench mark to. the food choices do appear basic and when they arrive they are small, however the taste is great. You do have to pay for extras, ie veggies with main. There is no complete meals ie asteak but order your sides as extras - leaves the experience expensive . Dinner and lunch menus are restricted in their times which is annoying if there is a group etc.

“Been many times”
Reviewed September 5, 2012 via mobile

I've stayed 3 or 4 times since MPW took over and about the same before. The rooms have had a freshen up and the restaurant completely changed. The problem is that as a business traveller the food is far too expensive eg starters are £6.50 (cauliflower soup) to £14.50 (fois gras). Fair enough have the fine dining but they really need a simpler and better value bar menu.

“An overpriced mock gourmet experience.”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

Overpriced 'pretend' gourmet food served badly by uninterested waiters and vastly up itself; no sign of MPW of course as it is probably cooked in London and shipped out to Maresfield; another franchise deal!
