Tripadvisor - sometimes it bewilders me. How can you choose a restaurant, drive 40 minutes to it during an apparently busy day without a reservation, find it closed and therefore rate the place at all, let alone rate it as a 1-star. How ridiculous is that?
Anyway, on to my review of the place.
This was booked by my partner as she was simply pleased to find somewhere that catered for vegan requirements as part of their regular menu, and yet still seemed to offer interesting courses for carnivores. And it's fair to say that we got exactly that.
My black pudding & bacon salad starter was very tasty (the potatoes were a little unexpected, but not a terrible addition), the pork loin and apricot main course was very well prepared and packed with flavour. I found the dauphinoise potatoes a little too rich for my tastes and not as seasoned as I would have liked, but that's just personal taste alone - they were appreciated by someone else at the same table. A simple churros and chocolate sauce desert was a nice finish too. The vegan options were also appreciated throughout and while the menu offered no vegan deserts, we asked and were immediately offered apple spring rolls with a minted sorbet which was apparently delicious.
A few things that could have been improved though; service seemed a bit much for the only waitress, who struggled a little to remember things like glasses and cutlery, and we were told they had run out of sparkling water (surprising for a restaurant early on a Saturday evening). The quality of the food can't be faulted though - a nice little find and worth recommending.
