This hotel takes the term 'budget hotel' to extreme. It's badly in need of renovation and redecoration. The bar and dining areas were full of character but the room we had was probably the worst I've ever stayed in. The corridors and room were cold and damp and smelled. The heating in our room didn't work, the carpet was old and dirty- dusty footprints showed it hadn't been cleaned properly, the bed was so uncomfortable with an ancient matress and broken base, I couldn't sleep because of the hole in thebed and springs sticking out. The bathroomwas equally damp and smelly; the bath tap was broken and warmwater came out of both hot and cold taps. I don't know how they can offer these facilities for weddings.
There was plenty available for breakfast but although we were early down ,thecooked breakfast was cold and dried up.
This was a cheap option but not worth the little we paid. You would be better off paying the difference for the premier in just down the street.

Stayed here a few weeks back and was pleasantly surprised after reading some of the reviews!
Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Was surprised that the two ladies working on the evening that I checked in (Receptionist & Barmaid) were also working early the next morning cleaning rooms, such long hours and yet still able to take time to give warm greetings on seeing me down to breakfast.
Food was spot on - breakfast and evening meals both very good quality and quantity and chef more than accommodating to all requirements.
The overall look and feel of the place is "quirky but cozy" a little tired in decor perhaps but very clean. Needs a little TLC with furnishings but I would definitely stay here again.

Currently in administration, this hotel is part of the Venture Hotels group. It needs money spent on it to improve it outside (car park uneven, lighting poor, window frames rotten) and in (decor, furnishings, fans in bathrooms broken, accessibility for the disabled ). Staff were friendly and helpful, food was good and plentiful. No food on a Sunday evening. Rooms were small. For the disabled, rooms were on the ground floor but down a corridor with two steps (or moveable ramps which you'll need to ask for) but door on end opens towards the bottom of the second ramp - hence, difficult. Bath is narrow. Bar area where meals can be bought has entance too narrow for a wheelchair unless it can be folded up and the disabled person walk a few steps. Pets welcome at no extra cost. The future of this hotel depends on who buys it and how it'll be used in future.

Bed clean, towels clean - the rest very poor.
Delapidated hotel but apparently the meals were acceptable .
Needs a lot of money spending on the rooms / building/ infrastructure - the type of place which gets British hotels a bad name.
Pleasant staff but they need more support.
Asked for early morn call didn't realise til the morning therewas no phone in room, consequently no call !!! .
Poor TV reception even on terrestial channels.
Should I have expected more for the lowish price?

We stayed here in January & when we had the opportunity to re visit nearly a year later we thought we would to see how things had progressed. Our welcome was again friendly at reception & we were informed that a wedding party was on at the hotel that evening. The room we were allocated was again in need of TLC but clean. We went down to the bar for some drinks & food when we met the wedding party waiting to go back into their function room. The staff at the bar were extremely professional & coped well with the amount of people & also kept us informed as to when we would be able to order our food. After an hour we had ordered & was having a wonderfully prepared meal! Unfortunately the shower in our room wasn't working but when we informed the reception the following morning after an amazing breakfast - we were moved without any hesitation. The room we moved to looked as though it had received that TLC the other room was still waiting for & we had a lovely 2nd nights stay. Maybe in another 12 months all the rooms will have received their TLC that they are waiting for! We will be back to see if they have!

Room Tip: Ask for a recently refurbished room

Stayed in June, attempted break in to room, night porter close to useless, local police not interested, no CCTV and no follow up from hotel.
Locks on room are only basic Yale locks.
Not interested in my safety, left hotel at 1.30 in the morning to sleep in clients office, and hotel not happy because I refused to pay the bill.
Time this place was demolished!

The quality of the food makes our stays here something to look forward to. The staff are friendly, the bar is cosy and welcoming and the food fresh and tasty. The meals are good value and the portions generous. Would definitely come to eat here if I lived locally.
