“Great Staff makes for a Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013 via mobile

Stayed overnight on 2nd November on the way back from Holyhead to London. Usually stay nearer to Chester but HI Warrington offered an excellent, flexible rate of GBP60 including breakfast. Made to feel very welcome on arrival by the lady receptionist. Nice room (206) with two very comfortable double-beds for two adults and two children. Arrived quite late, so didn't use the restaurant or room-service. After a good night's sleep, enjoyed an excellent breakfast in the restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home. The food was very good and there was a generous and varied selection of hot and cold items, including make-your-own pancakes, which were quite tasty! Check out was friendly and efficient. The hotel itself is a fairly standard HI property, but what makes it so special is its caring and friendly staff, who seem to be very proud of their hotel and welcome you as if it was their own home. Next time I am driving this route again and need to stop overnight, I won't hesitate to continue on the A55 the 20 or so extra miles to stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a coach trip to the Lake District. Our room (311) looked as if it may have been recently refurbished. It was a good size, with a nice bathroom, complimentary toiletries, choice of pillows and a large flat screen TV. Air con/hearing worked well and the room was quiet with the windows closed - when open traffic noise rumble could be heard. The hotel was very clean. No free wifi available (we thought a charge of £5 an hr rather excessive, even in public areas). The food at dinner was good, breakfast was excellent. The hotel staff did struggle with providing breakfast for a full coach load at the same time (particularly supplying fried eggs). On our second morning only scrambled egg was on offer which eased the congestion and anyway there was so much other choice it was the sensible option made by the catering manager. The outstanding feature of this hotel was the friendliness and resilience of the dining room staff dealing with the influx of the coach parties. We travelled as a couple but the whole weekend should really be reviewed as a group.

Room Tip: Top floor had good rooms (311 was away from the lifts)

Our return visit did not disappoint. Great value for money, both for accommodation and food. Staff are most helpful and attentive to your needs. Hotel is ideally located just off the motorway and great as a base for the Wirral and beyond.

I visited for one night with my daughter at the weekend. The room was clean and comfortable as well as spacious. However the complimentary tea/coffee set seemed to be hidden in a drawer which I only discovered by chance on the morning of departure. Not even a small notice to say where it may be located. This contrasts with the price list for the predictably overpriced mini bar drinks which had full prominence in the room. And charging £5 for an hour's access to their Wi-Fi ! Behave.

the hotel is a bit tired in places but the wonderful staff lift it so you don't notice! The ladies at breakfast couldn't have been more helpful. They were really great with my wife's gluten free requirements. We were let down a bit by the offer of a down & feather pillow ( a label attached to the pillow on the bed) but when we requested one, they said where weren't any. Again the staff stepped in to help, I asked the lady doing the housekeeping the next morning and low and behold a pillow appeared. The weekend pricing is a bit of a problem as the price more than doubles for a Sunday extension

check in good and the staff very friendly. Was given room number 4 a syndicate room which had a pull out double bed from a wooden panel on the wall, which had a table, chairs and a white board in the cupboard. The bed was very low to the ground and uncomfortable. It wasnt suitable for two adults. The radiator didnt work in the room. Reception were helpful and brought a heater for us which did warm it up and a blanket for the bed. We may have been part of a large party from National Holidays but we paid the same money as everyone else and had a sub standard room. Our friends were on the first floor and had a lovely kingsize bed and room. The dinner was included in our stay we were given a printed menu with a choice on, however there was no vegetarian option on the main course. The head waiter seemed put out when I asked what it was, he told me that was the chefs choice and could do me an omlette if I liked. We had been sat under the air conditioning unit and was blasting out cold air, I asked if it could be turned down twice but it never was. The breakfast was however very nice with plenty of choice.
