“Terrible food at breakfast, with very poor service”
Reviewed May 27, 2011

Stayed on the second floor of this hotel. avoid 2nd floor in summer months, as the rooms are incredibly hot due to loft position of the rooms. (no aircon available) That said the room was perfectly comfortable.
If you do stay, book room only. The breakfast was most probably the worst hotel breakfasts I have had in a long time. Quality and variety of of food poor. for example Three stale rolls sitting in a basket ! I could go on, but take my word do not bother with breakfast !

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments.
I am sorry that on this occasion your breakfast was not to the normally high standard we afford to our guests.
The Head Chef has started to retrain the breakfast staff to ensure that these shortfalls do not happen in the future.
If you wish to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate contact the Hotel.
When in the next pklease do not hesitate to contact me so that i can deal with your booking
myself.

Don't let the quaint olde fashioned outside fool you. Having looked this up on the web the pictures on their website do not appear to match the rooms in the hotel - from my experience anyway.

As I write, 17:20, after been out all day, the room is still waiting to be cleaned and the tea and coffee facilities have not been replenished. On checking with reception they are still making their rounds!!

Food is bland and tasteless.

15 inch TV is bolted to the wall 6ft up on a wall and can only be viewed if you lie on the bed.

Not a good experience for £115 per night plus meals.

My wife and I stayed at The Ship and had a nice break. We had a very nice meal in the evening (I recommend the Lamb). I didn't see any of the negative comments spoken of previously. Would recommend this hotel.

Visited on St Patrick's Day, and had a great time. Warm welcome at reception and bar, quickly served with drinks, bar area all set up for the live music night later. Had a wonderful three course meal, based on an Irish theme, with a contemporay twist : a trio of mini starters on the plate - delicious leek and potato soup served in an expresso cup, mushroom and cashel blue on toast. Then two main and side dishes served individually on a plate : Irish stew, Guiness and beef pie and colcannon mash - beautfiully flavoured and presented. Pud was a creamy Irish coffee liquer mousse....yum!
After coffee (latte and expresso from a proper machine) went through to the bar, where the live music was in full swing, hosted expertly by Brooklands FM radio, local artists bringing a diverse mix of styles. Although it was busy, the friendly bar staff managed to serve swiftly and efficiently. All in all a great night., looking forward to their courtyard BBQ nights in the summer.

We stayed for two nights at this lovely hotel to celebrate a special family birthday .There were thirteen of us and we all had a great time. The bedrooms were very clean and comfortable .We had excellent food in the restaurant and enjoyed a relaxing time in the bar.The staff were friendly and helpful and the management ensured that everything went without a hitch. We all thoroughly recommend this hotel and wonder why it only has a three star rating.

I have stayed in The Ship hotel several times only because it is very near work...and on every occation there seems to be no atmospher or soul at all.. its just got no heart !!

I was going to have room service but the menu in the room was missing, instead I thought id try the bar...which i did last time but thought id try it again

The bar menu was limited but choose to eat there as it seemed the menu in the restuarnt was even more limited .

The food was as bland as it could be...it really was.. the soup looked like soup but had no taste at all..!! none......and in the bar you could hear a pin drop..No music..no TV just the ramblings of a man having a Bluetooth call to his wife.. ( Send her my love too!).. Ive had more comfortable moments at funerals than in their bar...Come on wheres the background music or TV are you trying to make customers feel uneasy ???

The internet access in my room was not working and most of the channels on the TV set were missing, I reported this to receiption and the day after internet was still not working.

The room was ok but took an eternity to fill the bath....and the size of the extractor fan was over kill for the bathrrom... it looked like a high power one, it sounded like a Jet...and could probably suck you onto the ceiling!

Id recommend this hotel if you just want some where to sleep.. but for anything else look elsewhere....
