Oatlands Park Hotel

We booked in here for two days as it is very handy for Sandown Park racecourse. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews on here, especially as we got a deal that was so cheap it seemed too good to be true. All our worries were totally unfounded. This is a beautiful historic property in stunning grounds which is well maintained and sympathetically restored. The staff were friendly and efficient throughout our stay. The room was clean and nicely decorated, with a lovely view across the grounds and the first aircon I have ever come across in a hotel that actually worked properly. We only ate in the hotel for one night and it was perfectly adequate. The breakfast was the usual hot and cold buffet and the only thing that slightly lets the place down, but that's true of most large hotels in the UK. This is obviously a very popular wedding venue, but the organisation is excellent and the 2 weddings that took place during our stay didn't impinge on us at all. We will definitely go back and have been looking for excuses to visit the area again as soon as possible. There is also an excellent little pub within five minutes walk if you don't want to spend all night in the hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a lake view

Booked a room at this hotel using their internet booking system and believed everything was all sorted. However, when I went to book in on the desired date I was informed that I was actually a day late according to their system. This was a mistake on their behalf as there had been a problem for this system. When I checked my bank balance a few days later I noticed there was a charge for £75 from the hotel that had not been on the bill and I was not made aware of. When I confronted the hotel on this I was told it was their policy and that this was non refundable. The staff were extremely unhelpful on the matter showing terrible customer service.

It's an historical site, with interesting architecture, and adequate conference rooms. The grounds are nice on a beautiful day (although the "golf course" is so marginal as to be pointless). If you are expecting luxury and modern appointments you will be disappointed. For a short business stay I found it to be a nice quiet setting. Henry VIIi once walked these grounds and had the original structure built . Not sure that he would be too pleased to see how its turned out.

Stayed for one night - it was as expected. The room smelled funny though, a bit like mothballs. The room I stayed in had no view except for the extraction fans for the kitchens and other windows but there was no real noticable noise or smell which can be a problem sometimes in this circumstance. Decor was a little tired and the TV was not flat screen which one expects these days. Bedroom and Bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff were polite and breakfast was to a good standard. I didn't eat dinner there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view to the rear.

We live locally and during a cold spell the heating broke down and as a last minute Friday evening plan we moved into the Oatlands Hotel for three nights. We had previously frequented the hotel for Saturday lunch in the bar and Sunday high tea in the lounge; and I have also used their office suites for meetings. All of which are have been a top quality experience.
Throughout our weekend the hotel staff were attentive. The bedrooms had a lovely panorama onto the lake and farmlands at the front of the hotel and were spacious, comfortable and spotless - providing all the modern amenities.
For dinner we ate at the Broadwater Restaurant which offered a fresh menu each evening and a good selection of contemporary dishes and wines – which we really enjoyed.
On Sunday we reserved a table for the Sunday lunch Buffet. Upon arrival, the dining room was chocca with patrons and spirits were high with the sounds of a small jazz band. There was a huge selection of quality starters, mains and desserts, as you would expect from a high-grade establishment - and we tucked in!
It was a great weekend and the perfect’ home away from home’. As we live locally it won’t be long before we will be back!

The outside of the hotel looks very grand and the grounds around the hotel are very well kept. We booked this hotel as it was close to family and we had a good internet deal, B&B for £99 a night.
The hotel is tired and could do with some TLC, staff on reception were very friendly but got into a mix up with our booking. Our room was on the second floor but there was the oldest lift on the planet to get you there, I joked to my partner that it was on it's last legs and seen better days and as sods law would dictate the next time we had to use the thing it was out of order, something that happens quite often apparently.
The bar is over expensive, but most are.
The room was ok, could have done with updating, no WIFI available except in the lounge area downstairs which is a little bit annoying.
Overall it was a nice stay but nothing special which is a dissapointment
