Description: Set in the South Staffordshire countryside on a working farm just one mile from the village of Pattingham, The Cowshed has been converted into a fantastic contemporary restaurant. Originally the Clive Farm Dairy, the dining room now boasts a stunning interior featuring rustic oak beams and a mezzanine balcony area. The Cowshed's classic modern British menu, under instruction from Head Chef Joe Whitehouse, features favourites such as the pan-seared scallops with pancetta and sherry jus served with ciabatta toast; pan-roasted duck breast served with a zesty potato cake finished with a kumquat and grenadine jus; and the restaurant's signature Cowshed game pie stuffed with quail eggs and served with a sharp home made chutney.

“Tasty, but long wait”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

The Cowshed is in a lovely setting; great interior and very tasty food. We visited on a Saturday evening, and it wasn't particularly busy. Unfortunately we waited about 30 mins for someone to take our orders (apparently they had to wait for the kitchen to become clearer), and over an hour for our main course to arrive (we didn't order starters). As other reviewers have said, we were given a small sample of soup each, but there was no explanation as to why this should be (we presume it was because of the wait, but no one mentioned it). While we understand that cooking everything freshly will take longer over an hour's wait on a not very busy evening with no apology or explanation is taking it a bit far. Only one other gripe: I asked for my steak to be well done due to being pregnant. It was still pink in places when it came, but as we'd waited so long, I just ate around it and explained the problem when our plates were cleared. Still, the food WAS very tasty - just wouldn't attempt visiting on a busier night.

“Beautiful food in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed May 14, 2013 via mobile

I dined here on a Wednesday night with a group of friends, the restaurant was bustling for a midweek night. We had a lovely warm welcome, served a drink from a good selection and were seated on time. They had just launched their new menu which had a really good selection of dishes. We were kindly given a complimentary small cup of soup which was absolutely delicious. I chose the parfait which was a very generous portion, very smooth and tasty served with fresh toasted ciabatta. For mains I had monkfish wrapped in Parma ham with double cooked chips. The combination was wonderful and the fish was fresh and succulent. We were also given extra veg and potatoes in a creamy garlic sauce which were all included in the price. I was very full but managed to fit in the chocolate brownie which was a chocoholics idea of heaven.
All in all I would highly recommend the Cowshed and will definitely be back very soon.

Context:

Set against a charming rural landscape this hidden gem of a venue is the perfect place to relax with friends and family away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The venue is a stylishly converted barn full of quirky charm, comfortable stylistic furniture and welcoming staff. We were swiftly greeted by the friendly staff on reception and sat shortly after in the heart of the restaurant.

“expensive amateurish”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

Cold. Table booked 6.30 pm, we arrived 15 mins early and were told to wait in the car while they got ready and it was hailing and cold. Staff did not know what the soup was- which ended up resembling jarred baby food. All the food contained far too much salt. The steaks were all overdone and burnt. No chips came and then when we ordered some these were burnt. Minimal veg and potato for 5 people. We had to wait ages for 2nd and 3rd course- people kpet coming up and apologising there was a small group booking in the other dining room. One of us ordered an irish coffee instead of a desert which they seemed to forget about and had to be prompted. VERY expensive for the service and quality. A complementary soup was offered as a prestarter which was cold and full of salt- as was the soup starter. Male waiters could do with a night out in a good resteraunt to see how things are done properly at these kind of prices. Pudding was nice and staff were not rude apart from making us wait in the car- instead of welcoming us.

“Chilly Restaurant...Warm Welcome”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

We visited The Cowshed for a family lunch today and, luckily, were given a table by a radiator.!!
It was cold outside but they really need to look at their heating arrangements....a problem outlined by other contributors.
However, we got a warm welcome despite being early and soon warmed up with a glass or two of wine.
The Cowshed is a reasonably new venture based on a working farm just west of the city and it seems quite popular with quite a few tables occupied on a cold and wintry Tuesday lunchtime.
The lunch menu offers a good choice at a set price for two or three courses and,to me,offers good value.
Starters were all well received by the family..the liver parfait being particularily well-liked for its flavour.More melba toast would have been welcome however
The mains were equally well cooked and presented with the ham hock proving tender and delicious. The pudding choice was a little "ordinary" by comparison but all the plates were cleared and I heard no complaints about either quality or quantity.
Service was a litle mixed. We asked for more butter which was very grudgingly provided and we had to wait for the pudding menus despite a reminder. On the other hand we were made very welcome and the servers were cheerful and helpful enough. The food arrived promptly and we had a decent break between courses.
The restaurant itself is very pleasant with a slight rustic feel and some unusual pictures of farm animals on the walls that amused everyone but me!
All in all, a good experience..sort out the heating and apply a bit of "polish" and consistency to the serving staff and the Cowshed could be excellent. ..and it needs to be,with plenty of competition locally and just down the road in Bridgnorth.
Well worth a visit
