The mistake was not allowing Ron Muddle to open this "dog track" in Telford. As a result he bought Dunstall Park - a nice Midlands course with Flat and NH racing and turned it into an alternative to the French meat market for failed racehorses. The only people who enjoy it are mug punters in betting shops who never go racing.
I have been there on a wet winter evening when the 15-20 paying customers were allowed into the Owners and Trainers Bar, and it was still not crowded. All other catering was closed except for a Chinese van facility.
I was with an owner whose trainer had not bothered to come so I was asked to saddle the horse; the one consolation was that she won, and the management invited us in for a drink and to see the video of the race
