Description: Take an off the beaten track location in Oaken, a menu bursting with fresh seasonal dishes and a cellar full of real ales and fine wines and you have the ingredients for the perfect country pub and restaurant. It's a winning formula of traditional mixed with a few contemporary touches that makes The Oaken Arms a special place to visit.

I have now eaten here a few times, as it is convenient to meet family. Loads of parking. The food menu is quite extensive and, I thought, good value for money. The service was good and quick. I would certainly visit again as convenient and good value.

Used to eat here 2 or 3 times a month and was usually good for a family get together. But after the last few times it's dramatically gone to the dogs bad food, badly cooked food, dirty plates ( underneath) bad service and the kitchen staff seen smoking out the back as we walked past an open gate as we left. I've complained on the vintage inn website but had no response. We won't be going back in a hurry which is a shame as it's a nice pub apart from the food. We now use the bentlands

Having chose the rump steak having checked the size was 8 oz I was dissapointed to receive a meal which was a "lite bite " the steak was around half the size I was told that it would be, the staffs attitude when questioned about it was wellwe've cooked it for you what am I supposed to do about it ? All in all not a very nice meal and certain aly not worthy of receiving your cash !!!!

We visited here recently on a Saturday early evening for a family meet-up. The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived and got busier during the evening with a quite few tables reserved. Service was poor, no asking on how your meals were and general conversation with us at the table.

The food served was a good quality but some of the portion sizes were not very even, it depended on what you ordered. The chicken, ham and leek pie was lovely, but they did not provide many thick chips on the side. Sausage and Mash meal off the fixed price menu was a bit small for an adult portion comparing to some of the other meals. Lamb, Redcurrant and rosemary meatballs were lovely with a nice portion of mash. Scampi Medley was ok, nice few pieces of scampi and prawns, but not many of the thick chips again. Rump steak off the main menu was cooked lovely and good portion size.

We all had desserts after our main meals. Churros Sundae was a massive bowl, filled with spanish doughnuts, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce which was gorgeous. The 'Cake of the day' off fixed price menu was "Plum Frangipane" with ice cream, which was nice, but only a small portion comparing to our other desserts. The "Apple and Cherry Crumble" which was a whole round crumble which was massive, with a bowl of custard and scoop of ice cream, very filling!

Overall, an good night out, but portion sizes need to be more even, as it varied on which meals you chosen to eat. Drinks were lovely and the bar service was good. I will be visiting other vintage inn branches in the future, as I have experienced better.
