I stayed here with friends just before Xmas as we were going to a gig in Wolverhampton. My brother & sister-in-law should also have been staying but the booking got screwed up. In fairness, they were found somewhere else to stay nearby.

The room we had was simple but clean - the bath had been patched up from previous damage but didn't impact on the stay.

Overall the stay was fine. Yes, the hotel needs a bit of TLC but it was cheap, cheerful & served its purpose.

The staff were very friendly & helped as much as they could on "Mad Friday".

If you want 5-star luxury then pay for it and stay elsewhere. This hotel does what it says on the tin.

Was here over the New year period and yes some parts need some tlc. However, all staff we dealt with were very friendly and cooperative. This is NOT a five star hotel and it doesn't say it is. Some folk want five star but do not want to pay five star prices! The hotel is located close to shops, bars etc and that's a good point. There was some noise from a place near by on New years night but that's to be expected in any city or town centre. When I hadn't taken a starter it was noticed immediately and I was offered something else, which I took, and had a lovely melon starter. Not many places would have either noticed or done something about that fact. Our room was clean and adequate for a few days. Yes it could've done with a revamp but again - five star is not what it's advertised as. Most of our group had a fabulous time and only one or two had any complaints. When i asked if they had brought it to the attention of the manager they said no?! How can an establishment sort a problem if it's not brought to their attention? I even overheard someone say they wouldn't be back as the weather had been awful?! Sorry but at New Year - in the UK - weather is usually bad all over. After reading the reviews below we had went with an open mind and found it not to be nearly as bad as some others have experienced. We had a good time and was pleasantly surprised at the attentiveness of the staff, The Manager went out of her way to help and assure we had a good time!

Having stayed in Britannia Stoke and had a wonderful time last Christmas, decided to try Wolverhampton due to its location. NEVER AGAIN.
Thought we had an upgraded room (booked as standard twin, key card said executive twin) and were expecting something much better than we got. Stains on the carpet, torn upholstery, duvet which just covered the bed, no valance and a lack of storage space. The room was quite noisy from the Nightclub across the road. However the room was warm and there was plenty of hot water. Heavy rain occurred over Christmas Eve and this leaked through our bedroom ceiling and it was obvious from the staining that this had been happening for some time.
Meal times were chaotic. Two bus tours were booked in and they were mainly elderly people. Self service in a canteen style Jenny's Restaurant was not what was expected at Christmas time. Formica topped tables and tubular chairs in groups of four, are seen more in Joes Greasy Spoon. Soup was on the menu on the first night and it was absolute chaos as guests collected their dishes from the food bar and then struggled to get back to tables. Some of the elderly had walking difficulties and should not have been expected to carry hot food back to their tables. One of the staff said later that people were going round the restaurant the wrong way (?). The food was bland and insipid although plentiful, but the bar was not manned sufficiently to keep food and plates topped up.
Paper tablecloths appeared on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with one very cheap cracker. How Festive!!
Tea and coffee were served after meals in the Ambassador Suite but you had to be quick to get a cup and if so it probably wasn't warm.
Entertainment was in the Victoria Suite and people were sitting in coats, scarves and gloves because it was so cold as were all public areas. Our party of four did complain about the cold in the Suite and two members of staff did attempt to remedy this. The result was that the heaters then blew out icy cold air, another reason for people to abandon ship.
Bar prices were horrendous with a different pricing system throughout the hotel. Why?
This hotel lacked Christmas spirit in a big way.
On the plus side the 'skeleton' staff worked very hard and had a lot to put up with as there were many complaints from the guests.
Hotel Britannia Wolverhampton is definitely a place to avoid.

Recently attended for a dinner and dance with friends. Booking process was a joke - took friends many phone calls and three trips to actually be able to book. Once we arriv they had no record of our booking and even though we had our receipt to prove we had paid we were put in a corner whilst they found our booking. After 40 mins and 30 mins after the buffet opened we asked for our money back - we were then told we could not have a refund as the manager on duty did not have permission to do this. We could leave and call up the next day for a refund but weren't prepared to take the chance. By the time our booking was found - the buffet was cold but to be honest the food was disappointing anyway especially as we were expecting a three course meal. DJ was pleasant but disco was pretty dead and we left at about 9.30 to go into town instead. Have been constantly calling to contact a manager since but she is never available to speak to. So disappointing after a wonderful experience at the Village Hotel last year and at a similar price. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

This hotel is ideally located being 5 minutes from the railway and bus stations as well as walking distance from the town centre. It s also very reasonably priced. However, it is very dated and run down.
The room itself was clean and comfy but in need of a good makeover. The tv was an old portable one and had very few channels. The bathroom had no shaver point and the shower was cold. Towels were thin but clean.
The bed was comfy but constant noise from the corridor and outside made sleep very difficult to say the least. I was glad I was only staying one night.
I ordered breakfast for £5. There was the usual choice but the standard was poor. Most things were overcooked and lacked taste due to them being "no frills". One member of staff was expected to cope on her own. As a result service was poor and unfriendly.
I would stay here again but only for convenience and price. If you expect more than the basics stay away.

A hotel that is past it's time for a renovation and lick of paint.
Room ok but the £5.00 breakfast is utter joke. Everything is the cheapest ingredient possible cooked in a microwave or mass cooked. Do yourself a favor stay somewhere else or get your food at the pub across the road.

I dont have much good to say about this hotel at all. The room was very small. Poor TV. Cannot adjust heat in bedroom i got very hot. The train station is right next to hotel which woke me up several times. Hotel reception is to small and under-staffed. The food was expensive also. Overall i would recommend people to not stay here.

Thanks, Charles J
