“Unpredictable - from excellent to poor”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

Over several visits we have found the quality of the food and service to be very unpredictable - we are now quite reluctant to go back.

“Close to the cinema”
Reviewed November 28, 2013

Location opposite the cinema is the best thing about this place. Ordered salmon fishcakes with a jacket potato - potato looked like it had been microwaved, the fishcakes were deep fried, and obviously out of a packet, with barely a trace of salmon - if the menu hadn't told me there was salmon in them, I wouldn't have guessed. The accompanying salad was limp and brown around the edges. At £11.95 I felt ripped-off. My partner had a spaghetti dish with prawns - the prawns were completely tasteless (like the super-cheap supermarket ones). Drinks were extortionate. £7 for a pint of lager and a J2O. Hugely disappointed. Will never return.

“Plenty of room for improvement - Manager, please read these reviews!”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

I have been to Frankie & Benny's probably a couple of times a year, each year since it opened, and each experience varies! The last time was awful, so I wrote a review, however, last night, although the staff need some training (!), the food was better. We booked a table as were going to the cinema afterwards. As soon as we walked in a waiter acknowledged us as said he'd be with us as soon as he could. We then stood, inside the door, for what seemed ages, until being shown to a table. As we waited, you could not help noticing that many of the empty tables still had dirty plates, glasses etc waiting to be cleared, and you could not see the surface of the bar for the same reason. Food wise I had calzone (which last time was stone cold). This time, it was piping hot and absolutely delicious. My husband says his pizza was nice and our friend's husband enjoyed his burger and chips, although the juices of the burger made it very messy to eat! Our friend's wife ordered penne pasta with mushrooms and watercress, in a creamy sauce. She only ate about half of it. She said the pasta was very overcooked, it was bland with no taste and the creamy sauce was actually a small amount of a runny sauce. For dessert I had a 'mini' dessert of icecream with a mini pancake. The pancake was cold, rubbery and definitely out of a packet. At no stage did our waitress ask us how was the food, even when taking our plates away, our friend having left half of the pasta, did she enquire if we enjoyed our food. The waitress stretched across the table to clear the plates & glasses, right in front of me, whereas, she should have walked around the other side to take my husband's and friend's plates. I did notice that the music was quieter this time, much better, we could have a conversation without having to shout at each other.

“Good restaurant and good fun”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Took family for evening meal on Saturday night. Service from staff was friendly and efficient. Food was good and enjoyed by family. Only gripe is that we had to wait for a table (not a problem as was busy) so got a drink from the bar which we had to pay separately for which was a little bit annoying but I understand why

“Avoid”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

It is difficult to describe in a few words just how terrible our experience was. On arrival we were ignored for a long time and then shown to a table where to bench seat was ripped. Two of us both ordered meals with jacket potato but, after a long wait, they both arrive with chips. We complained and after another long wait the meals were returned with only the newly added jacket potatoes being edible. The rest of the dishes had clearly been kept under a hot lamp resulting in them being dried and burnt – have you ever been served grilled watercress? Getting the bill involved another long wait. Clearly none of the staff care about good customer service or take a pride in their jobs.
