I had an upstairs room on the back looking over the lake, the grounds looked very nice. The corridor to the room gave me an inkling of what was to come with carpet long past its use by date. The room was extremely small and the carpet awful, the bathroom was nice and clean though and there was a TV and even a small fridge which was very welcome. There was some kind of party in a large room below looking over the lawn and the parents seemed not to get on very well as there was a lot of bad language and then a small fight looked like ensuing but was broken up, all of this meant I spent until fairly late looking out the window making sure my car was OK.
If you don't mind the budget working mans pub feel to the place you might like it, but it was just to Hostel feeling for me and i won't be back.

Friendly helpful staff. That was the good bit.

Room 24 should be filled with concrete .

The outside lights should be turned off at night to ALLOW GUESTS TO SLEEP!!!!! What's the use of flimsy vertical blinds in keeping this light out? None. Hardly slept.

Food was slightly over priced-out of a packet stuff.

The whole was a bit shabby and frankly over priced. Ideas above its station, methinks.

I stayed at this hotel with my partner for a friends wedding. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff at reception, and then by the same member of staff as the bar maid, and then as a waitress..... Having read previous reviews I asked for a lakeside view room. We were not disappointed - room 9 has a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, sofa, chair and pleasant bathroom downstairs. Then you go up some wooden stairs to the bedroom on a level above the lounge area, but open plan. We then had patio doors out to an are at the back and leading to the lake. The one problem is I think they are just stud partitions between the rooms and we were 'lucky enough' to have people staying next door who liked putting on loud music from 7am - not ideal for a weekend away! Dinner was served in teh 'restaurant' which was rather crammed and echoey. Furnishings were rather tired and the rooms were not completed - open brick walls with holes and raw plugs in, wires running up the wall etc. Having said that the meal was of reasonable quality, and the bar was pleasant ( we spent so much on brandy, they gave us the rest of the bottle to take back to the room!). Breakfast was a mixed bag - great bacon and eggs, ruined by cheap sausages, and a rather grumpy waitress on the second morning. Overall, it is fine as long as you are not planning on spending much time in the actual bar/restaurant and liked the rooms. They must sort out the lake though - stagnant and suffering from eutrophication.
