On the 20th. of July 2013 i had a birthday party for my daughter. Everything went smoothly, i had great help with the planning, and on the night all was superb. Bar staff, waiters/waitresses were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble to make it a memorable event, the buffet was excellent and served just when we required it. I recommend this hotel for any event, i will be booking again for my son's birthday. A big thanks to Bruce and all he's team..

Well situated on the main through road of Banbury. Traffic can be noisy in the front rooms and we would imagine rear rooms would be affected by weddings. However we had a very warm welcome, were given a choice of rooms which were all clean and well-equipped in a traditional style. The staff were professional and friendly. Breakfast was locally sourced and freshly cooked. Bar and restaurant areas were pleasant. Very good value for money

Room Tip: Check whether there is a wedding on. The rooms at the back look onto the gardens which can be busy...

It was my first trip to Banbury and Cromwell Lodge is ideally situated just yards away from Banbury Cross.
The hotel was an old inn which fitted the character of the town perfectly, first impressions were good.
We were welcomed by a pleasant young receptionist who explained the car park, the breakfast times, the restaurant availability etc.
Our room, a "superior" room, overlooked the back of the hotel and the garden. Directly below our window (and the windows of all the bedrooms at the back) was a permanent marquee for functions which fortunately wasn't being used otherwise it would have been VERY noisy.
The bedroom was nicely furnished and a decent size although the furniture is beginning to look a little bit worn.
The bathroom was again quite large and clean, however, there was some stained grouting above the bath and toiletries were lacking, for a "superior" room I would have expected more than one small bottle of shower gel... NO SOAP!
Apart from the toiletries, my only negative comments are that the car park is small and you have to arrive early (or late) to get a space and the other is the height of the corridor, I'm only 5'7" and I had to duck in one place!
The breakfasts are excellent, the staff are helpful and friendly and the restaurant was good value and good food.
Just be aware, if there's a function on, I would imagine its very noisy. Having said that, I'd definitely return there.

We stayed for one night and checked in mid afternoon. We were greeted in a friendly manner and advised there was a party on that night at the rear of the hotel so we had been allocated a room at the front. We were fine with this as we would be returning after 11pm. We went to our room (room 8) at the front of the lodge, just outside was a pile of dirty linens presumably from the rooms being cleaned and a vacuum cleaner further down the corridor. The room was very basic, the bathroom very dark and though there was a wardrobe there were no drawers. We then left for the remainder of the day for the Battle Prom at Blenheim Palace - superb! We arrived back at the hotel approx. 11:15pm the party was still continuing and we went to our room. What the receptionist failed to mention that though our room was at the front and the party at the back of the hotel, the disco was at the front beneath our room! It was exceptionally loud, floorboards were vibrating with the noise and eventually it ceased at midnight.
The room at the front is very noisy due to the traffic and we were quite surprised regarding the volume of traffic which continued throughout the early morning hours - we did not get a great deal of sleep but on the plus side the bed was comfortable!
The next morning we went for breakfast and the dirty lines and vacuum cleaner were still in their positions from the previous day.
Breakfast was excellent and our waitress was very attentive and gave excellent service. Taking everything into account this lodge would not be our first choice if staying in Banbury in the future.

I have stayed at the main three hotels in Banbury and The Cromwell Lodge is by far the best value, the most accessable and whilst not all the rooms in this hotel are quiet, it is a simple issue of the hotel facing the main road and I have always found, as with this stay, the best policy is to book direct. It is under a new Manager, who was really helpful and I asked for a quiet room and I got a quiet room, so thanks to him. Plus, the hotel will offer the same prices as any of the internet sites, so why not go back to good old fashioned personal contact, as you will get this at the Cromwell. Nice price, too, but my tip is avoid the week, as Banbury is now totally accessable to Birmingham and London and the rest of the midlands and the north, with the M4 and this brings in the business travellers, hence high rates during the week. Go for a Sunday and enjoy the peace and quiet of the town and the hotel. I like this place!

Room Tip: Phone the hotel for best rates and ask for a quiet room or a ground floor room or whatever you want...

We had stayed here before and were looking forward to a return visit. The room we booked was not available but the staff did their best to find a good alternative as we were very disappointed. There is a large marquee permanently erected in the garden and it was creaking and squeaking very loudly with every gust of wind.My enterprising husband popped to the local B and Q and got some WD40 and gave the frame a few squirts, instant results! The service is very friendly here and the price reasonable but not the classy place we had remembered. But you pay for what you get and it's still a nice place to stay, with free car parking and in a great location for town.

Service excellent, atmosphere good, food good. This is an old hotel, the floorboards are creaky, the doors are squeaky and you can hear people moving around, so when the windows are open you can also hear the noise from the pub next door, so not a good nights sleep. but refer to my first points, the price is reasonable as is the prices for food.
