Description: Ye Olde Reine Deer Inn is the oldest public house in Banbury. Situated halfway down Parsons Street, in the town centre no visit to Banbury is complete without a visit to Ye Olde Reine Deer. A Hook Norton Brewery pub ensures the offering of mainstay Hooky beers and a seasonal guest, its even the breweries 'flagship' pub. The pub itself is over 400 years old and steeped in history and local folk law. The Globe room a hidden gem to the rear of the property used to be a common room for travelling gentry and is still clad in the original oak panelling, an incredible find and talking point. We serve food 12pm-3pm, 6pm-9pm Monday-Saturday and 2pm-3pm on Sunday. Ye Olde Reine Deer Inn has always had an impeccable reputation for great pub food and extremely well kept ale. We always aim to meet and exceed these very high standards.

“Saturday Lunch”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

During a shopping/browsing visit to Banbury last Saturday (25/01/14) we decided to go into the Reindeer Arms for warming comfort and lunch.
It was just what we needed, a great warming log fire, comfortable seating and a lunch which was first class, generous portion sizes, well cooked and presented.
We will certainly put this venue on our to visit list when we are next in Banbury.

“Not changed in 40 years”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

I used to drink here as a young man, and have not been here for 40 years! Was delighted to find it had not changed one bit. Log fire, no music or slot machines great beer and great home made made food. Have the special - bubble and squeak with hand cut ham and a fried egg - wonderful. Congratulations to Hook Norton Brewery and the current tenants.

“Excellent Sunday lunch”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

We took my family to Ye Older Reindeer this last Sunday for lunch. Booked a table and were warmly welcomed when we arrived. As we had two children with us we chose a table just through the bar area and away from the majority of the public so no-one would be disturbed.

We were offered a choice of roast lamb, roast beef or nut roast. The plates, when they arrived, were heaped with meat, yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and roast parsnips and then we had large bowls of cabbage, carrots and beans brought to us. Extra gravy was no problem and we also had plenty of mint sauce and horseradish sauce supplied. My sister-in-law is a vegetarian and said that the nut roast was very good.

The meals were hot and extremely tasty - the only little criticism was that I think the beans were probably frozen as they didn't taste that good.

We very much enjoyed our meal and the only downside that we noticed was that the lady from behind the bar frequently went outside the side door, right next to where our table was, to have a cigarette, and didn't wash her hands when she came back into the pub. I don't think she was serving the food but as it was so obvious every time she went outside I think it would be something to consider for the benefit of everyone sitting in the pub

We will certainly be going back on other occasions

“Great pub food”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

Visiting my elderly mother in Banbury just before Christmas, we needed somewhere for a traditional lunch and decided on the Reindeer, which we knew had been a hostelry in the town for centuries.

The pub was busy, so we took a table in the back room - wonderful oak panelling and a history which encompasses Oliver Cromwell, pretty traditional!

I had scampi and chips, while my partner and mother opted for steak and ale pies. We were close to the kitchen so we could hear how busy they were, given the time of year. But there was no trace of panic - just a busy, organised kitchen and waiting staff making sure the food was going out.

Our meals arrived very promptly - generous portions and tasted great. Friendly service when somewhere is that busy says a lot.

The next time I visit, I know that we'll be going back to the Reindeer for lunch again.

“Best pub in Banbury”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Great beer, old fashioned boozer feel. Food not the best on occasions and overpriced..

Nice place to have a pint, chat with friends and strangers, or read a book.

Thank you very much for the positive review, and i'm glad you had a relatively enjoyable experience. We always try to keep our customers as happy as possible. When you say our food is overpriced are we talking generally or are there any particular examples where you think we are charging too much? Many thanks.
