Description: A traditional Village Pub & Kitchen in the heart of the village of Hornton, North Oxfordshire. Comfortable, relaxed, welcoming and informal, we offer a range of cask ales, lagers, ciders and a carefully chosen wine list, most of which are available by the glass.Been walking or gardening all morning? Just leave your boots by the door and warm your feet by the fire. What about the kids? We think that they should be welcomed, not just tolerated.Just want a quiet drink, not a three course meal? Well, that’s fine by us but we do also serve unique and outstanding food. We buy superb ingredients directly from farmers & producers (mostly within a 30 mile radius of the pub) and we cook them in a way that lets their freshness and quality shine through. We’re also serious about seasonality and our menus are completely changed every month to reflect all that is freshest and at its best right now.

Arrived for Sunday lunch at 2.10 which was being served till 2.30pm, asked for a menu..to be told we are busy. I then asked if it would be too awkward to order and the reply was "yes it would"!!

I was sorry to read that we disappointed you.

As you observed, we were obviously very busy (Sunday lunchtimes often are), which is why we advise people to make a reservation to avoid disappointment.

I can only assume that the kitchen was at full capacity or that we had simply sold out of food at that stage.

Whatever the circumstance, I'm very sorry if we didn't communicate the situation to you very well. I really would recommend that you make a reservation for your next visit.

“A Hiden Gem”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

This is a traditional old English stone built country pub in a quiet Oxfordshire village, complete with a thatched roof, stone floor in the bar, well kept hand pulled beer and a garden. Except the new owners, Adrian and Lisa, have introduced the concept of serving seriously good food. The back room is now a tastefully decorated restaurant where the menu is changed every month.
The menu is based on using seasonably available ingredients sourced locally wherever possible. Dishes are individually cooked using fresh ingredients and are to die for. Flavours, texture, portion sizes and presentation are all well judged. Every time we eat there we try something we have never had before. As vegetarians, we are spoilt for choice. Our meat eating friends tells us the meat dishes are also excellent. And best of all the prices are very reasonable for such good quality food.
