We came here to meet up with relatives. The receptionist (Joanna) was very pleasant helpful and informative. The hotel was clean and well maintained. We were given a room at the back and although overlooking the car park was quiet. The evening meal was very good and service excellent. Breakfast choice was good, but no yoghurt on the first morning was remedied the next day. Breakfast service seemed to be disjointed with tables not set correctly and more than one request for coffee etc.
Despite this staff were pleasant and friendly.

Room Tip: Request a room at the rear. 112 is a suite

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend from 16 to 19 August 2013. The hotel in a mix of an old building with a modern extension. The staff could not be more helpful and the buffet breakfast was excellent to set us up for the day. We had a problem with our room but the staff sorted this out straight away in a calm and helpful manor. The location is great if you want a hotel that is close to a town centre but also within a short drive to pretty Cotswold towns and villages.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room in the new part overlooking the gardens - very quiet and got the morning s...

All staff we encountered were excellent - real assets for the hotel. Our room was In the old part and was delightful being large, well appointed and clean, as was the bathroom. The only disadvantage was because it was a warm night, we had to open the Windows, despite using the fans provided. The room was at the front of the hotel and there was a lot of noise from outside throughout the night, more so because of a local music festival. Garden facing rooms would be a lot quieter. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was excellent, being tasty and well presented. Service was of a high standard, both professional yet friendly. Although prices seem high, the meal was good value for money. We had to change our plans so left without having breakfast. The hotel managed these changes very professionally

This is a quirky, typically English 'olde worlde' hotel, full of charm. Well situated with a secure car park which I used as I had chosen to self drive to join a coach tour. My lovely room had creaky, uneven floors and windows that didn't open and close easily; it overlooked the front of the building and was very warm so I had to have the windows open. This meant it was noisy; dustcart, recycling lorry for bottles and street sweeper all before 7am on Monday morning but the bed was comfortable and I slept well. (There was secondary glazing had it not been so warm.)
The shower was temperamental, the shower head fell off while I was taking a shower and, not being very tall I was unable to replace it but this was done while I was at breakfast. The next shower I was unable to get any water but of course, when one of the staff checked it with me, it worked perfectly. It needed a firm twist of the tap not a gentle turn.
The bedside light was about 4 feet up on the wall beside the bed, which meant I often knocked it with my head as it was necessary to get out of bed to reach the switch to turn it off.
The bathroom had clear glass so essential to remember to lower the blind!
Buffet breakfast was excellent with a huge choice. Our coach party had a 3 course dinner, with a choice of 3 dishes for each course; this was very good although we had the same mix of vegetables most evenings. Understandably we had to choose what we wanted for dinner at breakfast time.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
All in all a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter and the plumbing is better in the newer wing of the hotel where there...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your comments following your time here with us at Mercure Whately Hall Banbury. I am happy to read that you thought your room was lovely but of course am sorry for any external noise from the road and steets outside. I would like to apologise for any incvonienience you experienced wit the shower but pleased to read that the team attended to the problem quite quickly for you. Our chef will be pleased to see that you enjoyed your breakfasts so much and I will also be certain to let him know your thoughts on the vegetable choice at dinner.

Overall though I am very glad that you had such a pleasant stay and hope to be able to welcome you again in the future.

Brilliantly situated in the centre of Banbury, just right for visiting the town and surrounding areas.
Private parking at the back of the hotel, but tight wall to pass through.
2 parts to the hotel the old and full of character part dating back to 17th Century and a new 'block' with newer bedrooms in. Both areas very nice but the newer extension has a lift and larger rooms and very close to the car park.
Very helpful member of staff Olivia on reception, other areas can be a little slow and felt a lack of numbers.
Rooms usually sold online as 'room only', try to remember this when you arrive as they do not remind you but do tell you where the breakfast room is and at £15.00+ per person really not worth paying higher than London prices. Recommend you go towards the shopping area and eat at the Pinto Lounge. Excellent choice at any time of the day but very good choice of large breakfasts under £8.00. 21 Banbury High Street. Room 122 in the new block good size bedroom and bathroom with large lounge area great for a few friends for a late drink and chat.

Room Tip: Room 122 in the new block good size bedroom and bathroom with large lounge area great with a few fri...
