“A fantastic hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We stayed for two nights on the occasion of my sister-in-law's birthday. The room was in the older part of the hotel but had been very tastefully refurbished and although it was adjacent to the road we did not experience any traffic noise. The food was of a very high standard and all the staff were extremely attentive without being "in your face". We would certainly hope to visit again on some future occasion.

I was thrilled to read your review and delighted that we exceeded all expectations at your family celebration. The hotel really does lend itself to reunions and family 'do's.

3 Stars seems at odds with the friendly of service and the frankly excellent food, but I suppose a quaint little building like this is always going to have limitations when it comes to accommodation. But what it lacks in trouser presses and shoe polishing machines it more than makes up for in worthwhile qualities. If you can fault the staff or the quality of the food you must have Paxman like standards with the palate of the late Michael Winner.

We stayed for four nights and also ate at some other well reviewed pubs in the area but although they were a few pounds cheaper, even the hotel bar meals knocked spots off them. Don't bother going anywhere else.

As you can see from other reviewers you aren't alone in thinking the hotel deserves more than it's 3*. However, it was a decision we made, here at the hotel, to be an excellent 3* and exceed expectation rather than accept a 4* rating and be just average.
Once people find us they do keep coming back so hopefully we will see you again before too long.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in February. The hotel location is good for walks etc but you will need a car to venture further afield. The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean but not quiet! There was constant noises from some of the other guests, which we had to speak to them about. We stayed there during the school holidays (we don't have kids) so there were children about which probably added to the noise. The breakfast was lovely, so much choice, and filled us up until dinner! A visit to Banbury is worth while but we found Oxford itself a bit of a let down. We are members of the National Trust, and there is a stately home just a few minutes drive from the hotel with lovely grounds to walk around (in better weather though as it was very cold when we went.) Overall, we had an enjoyable stay but would ask for a quieter room next time!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from lifts and exits

It has been a very cold start to the year but there is, as you said, still lot's to do and see in the area. We are in a great location for lot's of National trust and English Heritage properties, in particular, Upton House, Blenheim Palace, Hicote Gardens, Broughton Castle, Sulgrave Manor and Warwick Castle, to name just a few.
I wonder if you visited Stratford upon Avon which is only 20 minutes drive but a favourite of mine for the individual shops and fabulous tea rooms.

I stayed here with several members of my family to celebrate my mothers Birthday. The hotel is well refurbished to a high standard and our room was very comfortable (especially the bed!). The staff were all faultless, especially Sean who appeared to be the restaurant manager. Our food was excellent both for dinner and breakfast. If I had any criticism it would be that the sound insulation in our room (room 22) was only reasonable - we could hear the people next door who were talking loudly - and the sound of the fan in the adjoining rooms bathroom was very intrusive and seemed to run all the time.

We walked out from the hotel through the village of Wroxton and the grounds of the college which was superb.

Just returned from our second stay and we will definately be back again later this year. As said before the decor is tasteful and the whole hotel is very well maintained. Food is fantastic. We realised that in 24 years this is the only hotel that we would book deliberately DB&B because the food is so good. Perfect base for exploring the area and you know when you return from a busy day you are going to have a lovely evening. The hotel has a lovely relaxed, efforltess atmosphere but you know this make some amount of work by the staff and credit to the owners who have created a gem.

In March 2013 I attended a wedding at this excellent hotel. The service was impeccable, the food delicious and the decor tasteful and well maintained. Thoroughly recommended for weddings or a short break in the Oxfordshire & Warwickshire countryside.

Stayed 2 snowy nights in Room 6, B+B. The room was very cold, but an effective portable heater was brought up, which solved the problem. The room is in the older part, on the front facade of the hotel on Silver St. We had long icicles in front of our window hanging from the thatched roof. The road is very close, but didn't bother us at all. The view is of fields and trees, and the snow made it picture perfect. The room is small, but very pleasant. Nice decor, very comfy (double) bed, good-sized bathroom. The TV was in an inconvenient position on the wall, and couldn't be adjusted. We could have done with a few more tea bags and milk sachets - i guess we could have asked. There is no fridge or mini-bar. The breakfasts were top-notch - heavenly - sausages were especially yummy, and the marmalade was really tasty. There are a couple of pubs nearby, with blazing log fires, totally authentic, and the village of Wroxton is a hidden gem - so quaint. The Wroxton University building - a Jacobean mansion - is in the village, and you can walk around the grounds if the gates are open - gorgeous, although we nearly froze in the snow. I would recommend this hotel for a quiet getaway in the countryside. The staff were helpful and pleasant; the food was great; this hotel is very good all round.

Room Tip: Room 6 is small and rather sweet, with views across the road to fields and trees. There are 4 steps...

Thank you for your lovely comments and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. It has been a very cold winter and the snow has certainly been a challenge. The heating is always put on early in the day for the rooms which are occupied that evening so I am wondering if you booked on the day or changed rooms when you arrived or perhaps we missed it off our list - it has been known to happen and please do ask if you need any extra supplies of tea/coffee/milk/biscuits which we always keep at reception.
