My wife and I could not have been made more warmly welcome. That, together with great breakfasts of our choice plus brilliant dinners made us feel nothing but delighted with the whole experience at Uplands House. The location setting is charming and ideal as a base for Cotswold touring. The very helful advice given of what to see and do was an added bonus. Having meals " en famille" was fun and lively conversations with the other guests at table added a richness to the stay. We would love to return when the occasion arises.

We have just returned from our weekend at Uplands House. The whole experience exceeded our expectations from start to finish.

The room, the food and the company were excellent. We were made to feel very welcome by Poppy and Graham, and felt that if we had needed anything extra, which we didn't, they would have moved heaven and earth to provide it for us.

We particularly enjoyed the evening meals, cooked by Poppy, accompanied by fine wine and interesting and varied conversation with the other guests and Poppy and Graham. We we very lucky that there were two birthdays celebrated whilst we were there and we were invited to partake in the champagne kindly provided, which was on the house. Yet another thoughful gesture by Poppy and Graham.

Our room was lovely and quiet, very spacious, with a very comfortable bed and a very large en-suite bathroom. There was plenty of hot water for a refreshing bath before dinner!

All in all, this was an extremely interesting and relaxing weekend in what felt like the home of friends. It seems that Poppy's mission in lfe is to please people and ensure that everyone who stays in her home is happy and relaxed. She managed to achieve that this weekend very easily indeed. Thank you Poppy and Graham, for your hospitalily and company.

There is much, much more to Uplands House than bed and breakfast. If you are a foreigner who wants to experience England like you imagined it from the books and movies- go to Uplands House.

The Bed

Comfortable, clean, big beds, a lot of space, nice view to the garden and blooming cherries. Its a real house, not a hotel, so you find yourself in an authentic, real-world English environment with all the things still in their places, books on the shelves, pictures on the walls. Its clean and well maintained.

The Breakfast

Good quality, tasty, big portions, fruit with yoghurt, full English breakfast, we liked it. Dinners were good too. All in all, food was good.

The Experience

Setting- its an impressive 1875 sandstone mansion with a very nice garden and a classical lawn in front where you actually are allowed to walk on. The house breathes history and Englishness (the way we foreigners understand it). If I needed to show an Asian how historic England looks like, I'd show the picture of that house.

The hosts are an experience on it own right. Polite, courteous, friendly and talkative Lady Cooksey not only takes good care of guests, but also is a very interesting and intelligent person. The dinners with her contribute greatly to the experience- you can hear stories about Munich Olympic games or learn about the history of the house, or discuss English politics, or have a chat about gliding with Graham. Real English people, real English setting, real English experience.

All in all- great place. Would definitely recommend it to friends and anyone going to see the Cotswolds.

ps: its also children friendly, Lady Cooksey even had a bag full of toys for my 3 year old son.

A search of the Wolsey Lodges Handbook resulted in a 3 - day stay at Uplands House where we were cosseted by Poppy and Graham. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel truly at home. We had a beautiful spacious bedroom and bathroom overlooking gardens, fields and trees in full spring mode. Candlelit dinners with Poppy and Graham were delightful and we had full use of a guests' drawing room where we had afternoon tea and after- dinner coffee - most times accompanied by Poppy and Graham. After dinner we sat by a beautiful log fire Our dog came with us and was made truly welcome. We arrived home feeling thoroughly rested having spent such a tranquil three days.
Could recommend it over and over again - full marks to Poppy and Graham.

We see ourselves still as a young couple (30+) and really can recommend this relaxing place also for the yougsters. It is like coming home with afternoon tea, delicious fresh homemade diner and a nice fire afterwards. Poppey and Graham really treat their guests well with a lot of care but not overwhelming. After the nice breakfast sitting in the beautiful garden with a cup of tea / coffee was the best start of the day. (Couple from Holland)
