I visited here with a young relative. The free outdoor play areas are excellent and as it was very cold we had the place almost to ourselves. I have been here in the summer and while it does get busy we have always found a place to park and somewhere to sit.

We often take our dogs here for a change from the usual routine, there is a fair bit of mud and water about though so take some towels for afterwards. Like everywhere in essex right now you'll need you'll wells too!

I have been to many parks but this one was fantastic. So many different things for the children to play on, not been anywhere with such a variety of equipment and bonus it's free.

This is a fascinating area on the marshes with easy walks to see estuary and creek views. There are longer and more energetic walks through woodland paths with works of art artfully blended into the landscape. For wildlife fans there are bird hides and an RSPB centre with friendly and helpful volunteers and often fun activities for children. The playgrounds are good particularly for older children although they can get busy. The museum, upstairs in the centre behind the cafe shows the fascinating history of the area and its links with explosives and Alfred Nobel. There are remains of some of the industrial buildings in the woods once you know what to look for. The reconstructed cottages, rescued from demolition are an attractive feature. There is a small gauge railway which takes passengers from the car park by the recycling centre to the creek edge car park. The recycling centre is rarely open despite the council spending lots of money on it and removing the boat museum but there isn't much of interest in it. I do hope that it is turned into something useful and interesting soon. The cafe could be better but ok for a coffee. It is frequently understaffed at busy times, tables are left uncleared and food is limited and expensive. Sadly the museum exhibits are often 'out of order' apparently due to parents letting their unsupervised children run about and break things whilst they sit in the cafe. There are insufficient staff I'm told to look after the area.
